Bad behaviour on this forum - 08/02/09 03:11 PM

Regretably we have had to ban a user from the forum. Please exercise restraint in postings. We provide this forum as a free service and really do not have the man power resources to provide continuous moderation, we must therefore rely on our users to exercise moderation if we are to continue to operate.

Re: Bad behaviour on this forum - 08/02/09 04:08 PM

Well done, it will ensure that your companies reputation is not diminished providing that the users do "exercise moderation".

The reason for this message board is to help Sherpa to promote their services and I thank them for the many people that they enable to enjoy a walk without carrying too much on their backs. It is also to enable us to exchange walking information. Whilst this part of the board is for "General chat" I don't see that as a reason for unreasonable comments such as the one that was, in part, reproduced above.

Clearly if individuals don't know where to draw the line or how to moderate their language then they are likely to have problems; they shouldn't expect Sherpa to tell them exactly what is not acceptable.

Re: Bad behaviour on this forum - 09/02/09 03:55 PM

All responsible, right minded people on here will of course welcome the call for restraint and moderation when making comments.
It is regrettable that someone has been banned from here but this was probably inevitable if the offending post was even more repulsive than the one made at 1.02pm on 31st January in the "Food" thread in "General Chat".
Let's just hope that a sense of decorum prevails from now on.

Thanks I have removed the topic but i cant be doing this every day
You guys are going to have to alert me to these postings whne you spot them

I am glad about this. You don't have to spew poison to make it a lively forum. Debate is good and healthy - starting getting and you lose all focus of debate.

Thanks noj, I'm sure that was the right thing to do. Whilst we are all in favour of free speech, it has been getting a bit unpleasant in here recently - in fact, I for one have voted with my feet and only visit occasionally now, mainly because the forum seemed to have been invaded by potty-mouthed adolescents. So thank you and well done. grin

I'd like to assist our "new" member freebird in reminding him of the terms of behaviour ..

"You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this BB to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy"

Of his 11 posts 10 are purely
derogatory slights and attacks on one particular forum member and as such this
is a form of harassment and bullying.

Of course I could be totally mistaken but the whiff of NW and the Avuncular One
are oozing out of those eleven posts.
If so, and this gentleman has indeed been deemed inappropriate to the forum, the the moderators should be aware that the poison remains.

In the mean time, I can only paraphrase one of his posts and say that he would be doing the future of this forum a great favour if he was to "go away".

Quite so. Consenting adults may get away with abusing each other in private (unless the News of the World photographs them) but the public exhibitionism to which you refer has been tasteless and boring.

I miss Norman. As rude as he could be sometimes, he could also be really supportive. When walking the C2C was just a dream I had been simmering on the back burner in my brain for a decade, I dared to post my first post on this site and Norman was there. I was terrified before I posted my first post. But instead of making me feel like an idiot, his posts gave me human perspective on the endeavor and helped me believe that I could walk the walk. All the posts about boots and compeeds and b&b's are important, but Norman's posts helped make this site a community of people with diverse interests and a wicked sense of humour.

Re: Bad behaviour on this forum - 27/05/09 06:17 AM

This year I have found it particularly difficult to hit the trail on a regular basis. I have taken on several new posts and increased my work 3x. I am hoping to use the C2C as a "reset" button and a reminder that I need to take better care of myself.

I am playing with the idea of doing the LEJOG over four summers: 1) Land's End to Wales, 2) Offa's Dyke to the beginning of the Pennine Way, 3) the Pennine Way into Scotland, and 4)Scotland to John O'Groats. The fear of failure would convince me to work out more consistently. I imagine the LEJOG is not as beautiful as the C2C, but it would earn me bragging rights.

Take care of yourself.

Not if you take four years and four separate visits.

Unless you want to "brag" (hardly a worthy motivation for walking) then don't waste your time.

So many superior walks on the planet...

I should imagine the scenery and terrain could be varied, and all stunning in its own right, as long as you choose your path carefully and avoid towns/cities/industrial. Unless you HAVE to stick to a generally 'accepted' route to claim success/completion of the LEJOG?

Re: Bad behaviour on this forum - 28/05/09 02:32 AM

I don't have a long enough school holiday to manage the trip in one go. So, I would choose a different LDW each section and enjoy the trail. Do you have any suggestions?

That's no good. You should make time for a decent walk every so often. Nobody knows when they will be struck down by sereious illness or worse and not be able to get out at all.

Yes I agree with lounge lizard, there is no excuse for not having a walk, you should try to make time for one, why not put on your boots and walk around the block, I do when their is nothing on telly, belive me it realy gives me a buz.

Re: Bad behaviour on this forum - 13/07/09 12:09 PM

There could be many reasons that Redlesweb can't go walking. I don't get out to do much country walking because of work and sometimes my one day off is occupied with other things. I do try and compensate by walking to the nearest town and back and doing the shopping without taking the car.

Hi Mark,
did you walk on the road to Blakey Ridge or on the route of the Rosedale Circuit towards Botton, maybe even
straight up the dale then turn of above Farndale.
which ever way you went it would be a good walk

Hi Tim,
We came out of Westerdale and made our way along to Esklets, where the scource of the Esk is,and then climbed up to flat howe, before crossing the Blakey Ridge road and across to Fat Betty, missing out the road going around Rosedale Head. Then following the path from Fat Betty,we walked along the road for a while which goes on to Castleton, over looking Danby Head and Botton. We came off the road at High Stone Dyke, passing Broad Gate Farm and getting back to Westerdale by Christy Gate Road. It was a lovely eight miler.

Re: Bad behaviour on this forum - 21/07/09 08:48 AM

Hi Mark,
followed your route on the map and it looks a good walk, will have to remember to walk it some time when i have bit to spare, i could start from the Old lion as it would be nearer to drive.
it reminded me of a time when did the L.W.W. unsuported.
We had a rest and some refreshment at Exklets,
The walkers had all brought some tins or packets of soup.
we were trying to heat them all in a pan on a fancy stove,( a block of porous substance)soaked in meths. only trouble was we had no lid for the pan and the heat was escaping and the food was not getting warm, any way some one had the bright idea, to put another pan on as a lid. the thing was the pan had been stood on the ground and when it was taken off all the rubish it had picked up off the ground was in among the soup. we sorted it out as best we could. ate it. Then we went on our merry way,
before we had got to Flat Howe we had a contest see who could throw or regurgitated refreshment the farthest.
Pleased to say there were no aftereffects

Hi Tim,
The LWW doesn't go through there now - I believe the farmers were not too happy. It is good to see you used a bit of common sense there.

hi Mark,
yes the first time went after the farmer closed that route
we found we had to go to the Old Lion, mind you it was better track, the climb out off Esklets was very boggy.
there is walk marked through Eskletts cannot think what it is called.
