The main problem with Offa's Dyke is that there is simply not enough accommodation. Only 2 youth hostels close to the path (St Briavels and Kington). Others like Clun and Capel-y-ffin (soon to close) are off the path, and unless you're with a large group, much of the accommodation is pricey if you're travelling alone. It is a path that's probably best done on a circular route or with transport at either end.

We went B&B Average cost 25.. per night. Plenty of those on the route. I mean, whats the cost of Hostel accomodation with a hearty breakfast thrown in. I bet you would only save around 100.. at the expense of a bit more comfort. If you are not bothered about comfort, then camp it. This is the cheapest option by far and well worth the weight. You can have longer days and take it slowly to compensate for the extra load.
