When I look at the schedules for trains from Manchester to St. Bees, the turn around time at the stations on route seems to be very short. Is there enough time to transfer trains when unfamiliar with the station layout?

I am looking at Virgin's details that say that the train arrives in Bolton at 12:18 and departs at 12:24 for Carlisle.

Any advice would be most welcome.

Thanks.

wcw. Six minutes will be fine for changing at Bolton if your incoming train is on time.

We walked the C2C last month and used a number of trains before and after and found a few minutes to be lots of time.

But in larger stations, beware of last minute platform changes. Seems to be a game that bored station personnel play.

Six minutes is ample time.It will allow you to harass station staff, visit the WC,purchase a cup of tepid brown liquid called coffe, consume a grease burger and have a fight with a hoodie.

Checking the timetable it's clear that your train is a through train from Manchester Piccadilly (depart 11.58) to Carlisle. It stops at Bolton but you do not change trains. So no problem.

wet coast w. Please confirm the train times as in my timetable book the one arriving in Bolton at 12.18 appears to be from Manchester Victoria.

norman. Yes, the eternal pessimist can always be confident that any connecting train will just be missed.
.
Gulf Island. Beware platform changes at large stations, yes, but Bolton isn't that big.
.
Black Sailor. If requesting times from Manchester Airport to Carlisle it will automatically assume a preference for changing at Bolton, with about four platforms, rather than Manchester Picadilly, with about fourteen.

There are no trains from MAN airport to Victoria. If you are starting there you should take one of the frequent trains to Piccadilly and catch the 11.58 direct to Carlisle (platform 14). If you are starting from Manchester city centre you should take the same train from Piccadilly. Do not go anywhere near Manchester Victoria station!

BS. I am well aware trains don't run from Manchester Airport to Manchester Victoria and was NOT suggesting that one should go via Manchester Victoria for this journey, but, with wcw saying they would arrive in Bolton at 12.18 and my timetable suggesting the arrival at 12.18 is from Victoria, was just asking WCW to confirm their intended times.

We will be starting from the city, so the info regarding Picadilly station is helpful. Thanks for all the comments. I'm glad to hear that if we do have to change trains in Bolton six minutes should be ample time. Thanks again.
