Thanks,Top Babe
I normally go walking on a Wednesday (I'm in the licensed trade) and when I have Wednesday to myself,I'll bear that in mind.

I was just curious whether Top Babe came from the village of Wynyard (a very, very nice area I hasten to add) or if there was another Wynyard somewhere in the land.

In case anyone is interested, there is a Wynyard in Tasmania, named after a Major General Edward Buckley Wynyard,a British army officer who commanded an Australian unit in the nineteenth century.
If you are not interested, then just ignore this message and carry on with what you are doing .

We did the day 2 high level alternative via Red Pike etc this June. Absolutely fantastic, it was undoubtedly the highlight of our walk. Particularly enjoyed coming over Haystacks and Innominate Tarn.

...however this was also one of the hardest days. The climb up Red Pike from the Ennerdale Forest track was far and away the toughest climb of the entire walk and by the time we got to Rosthwaite we were pretty much done in! My advice would be to do it if you believe that (a) you will be fit enough by day 2 for a real test and (b) you are not on too tight an overall schedule so that you don't put at risk the entire venture.

Good luck

THanks Greg- you never know I may grind ot a total halt- I hope not though..
Thanks also to Mattcop for the encouragement about the redpike ridge... it looks tough but fantastic. I am stuck with a schedule.. it may be a decision for the day dependent on the weather etc. I am sorely tempted though.
Nimrod - you have been doing your homework.. wynyard , Tasmania sounds inviting.
Only three days of work left...

Mattcop,
We are planning to stay at the Black Sail. There is a path up Scarth Gap to Haystacks. We would then be going on to Stonethwaite. I don't think we want to attempt the whole ridge, but would like some feedback on just doing the Haystacks to Stonethwaite leg.
Any info appreciated.
