Noted the recent comments re Ennerdale village campsite. Does anyone have recent info on Moor End. According to Stedman, just beyond the village. Any info greatly appreciated. Thanks JohnN

Your right Journeyman , I camped at Ennerdale village campsite and got bitten to pieces , there is another campsite about 100 metres passed there , I found out just as I was leaving.

ennerdale campsite itself (the camping area )is lovely , nice field in woodland and a lovely river.
BUT the walk down the track past the tip of a house and out buildings and the shower and toilet block is totally disgusting .shower not working , tolilets never cleaned in years and the house and buildings is just a junkyard.
apart from that its great!!

cheers sid

You'd be better off staying at the Shepherds Arms in Ennerdale Bridge - good beer, nice meals, a comfortable bed and NO midges.

Or you could carry on to the far end of Ennerdale water and camp there. I met a couple of American lads, one I remember was called Forest! They didn't have any midges and it was free ! Albeit totally illegal. But who's going to say anything in the middle of nowhere!!

If you get as far as the end of the lake you could go the extra mile and camp legally in the grounds of High Gillerthwaite Youth Hostel. Tony, the warden, is a really friendly chap and if the hostel isn't too busy you'll probably be able to use their facilities.
This would be a mega first day though - about 19 miles from memory
Good luck

Many thanks for the replies, I haven't decided what to do yet, might leave it until the day and see how I feel about pushing on a bit further. Thanks again all.
