#2751 - 21/04/02 11:15 AM Dogs on the Cleveland Way

Has anyone who's familiar with the walk had any experience of taking along a 4 footed friend?

Are dogs well recieved by locals in view of the recent F & M epidemic and are there any dangers for them?

A lot of my local weekend walks are on the North York Moors, often on sections of the Cleveland Way, with 2 dogs. There are no restrictions, other than the usual "Dogs on Leads" or "Under Close Control" signs. In theory, according to a Park Ranger friend, dogs are not allowed off leads any where on the North York Moors, but in practice it depends on how well behaved they are. Any slight hint of sheep worrying by dogs could cause a more serious problem. I have seen a sign which just said "Loose dogs will be shot". So make sure your canine companion can be absolutely trusted to stay close when called upon to do so.
