Im new to walking and am planning on walking part of the Cleveland Way from Saltburn to Filey.Camping along the way.
Im learning to map read, but i was wondering how well sign posted it is along that stretch. Is there any danger of getting lost along the way?
Any infomation or advice would be great!
Thanks.

Hi - not much chance of getting lost as you are following the coastline most of the way with one or two detours around golf courses. As long as you take a 1:25000 map you should be fine (unlike the chap I met trying to ealk up Buckden Pike on Saturday using a road map). If you're a bit unsure you might want to buy a guide - I used Iam Sampson's National Trail Guide when I walked it. It has map extracts - although I still carried the full OS map - and interesting information about places along the route.

I've walked from Cloughton Wyke to Scalby Mills and it is well signposted.

I would endorse Heatha's advice to use Ian Sampson's book. The OS map extracts are very clear and the book is small enough to carry without being burdonsome. This stretch of the CW is straight forward - the only time you'll have to navigate by yourself is through Scarborough!

No danger at all of getting lost as most of the route is marked with CW signs.

Campsites might be a problem but you can always find a pitch on the cliffs. There are sites at Runswick bay,Robin Hoods Bay and Ravenscar (Mrs White,Bentrigg Farm).

Beautiful walk. I did it this time last year and the weather was gorgeous. the North Sea looked just like the Adriatic. I know. That's what I thought.

You won't get lost. Saltburn and Filey at either end are little gems. Enjoy Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay...and get through Scarborough as quick as you can.
