any suggestions for a last night stopover, en route, somewhere in the Burnside area. All male party who will be enjoying their last night of freedom ( before meeting wives in Bowness) so miles from anywhere farmhouse not the best suggestion.

Try Bridge house in Kendall. Sheila or her husband will pick you up at Burneside & drop you back off at the same place after breakfast the following day. (free service). This gives you an excellent last night in Kendall. All details are on this site.
Good luck with the walk.
Robin.

The pub in Burneside isn't bad. Reasonable food and beer. Not a wild night out on the tiles but pretty good all the same.

oh and there is a paper mill, James Cropper, they have a little paper shop selling speciality paper and stuff so you can stock up with gifts the following morning.

Try to get to Staveley and the Eagle and Child, but for a real treat, walk the extra mile to the Watermill Inn at Ings (slightly off route). Accomodation, great food and 16 real ales plus continental lagers and more. That should just about do you. But do pop into Footsore's gift shop first, that should top up the Brownies nicely!

Yes, I've stayed twice at the Watermill at Ings and it's excellent.
