Hi there everyone,

This is my first time on TWCF. Just wanted to say that Martyn's problem is not a new one. Up here in the Lake District, lonely partners of walkers are referred to as: a Wainwright widow or widower.

I put my family through much worse I admit in that I dragged them up here to live (13 years ago). My husband now travels nearly 80 miles a day to get to work and back and my son's school is 50 miles away! All this so Mother can live amongst the fells!

I am sorry to hear that M's marriage has failed to survive his walking interests. On the bright side: there are many other interests which might have broken a relationship and also made friendship impossible. All the best Martyn (although I don't know you). B

I have read some of his works but prefer the Dzogchen teachings of Sogyal Rinpoche.

I'm back up to the lakes in dec for a weekend hiking around pillar, high stile, haystacks, kirk fell, gable no worries or guilt feelings about leaving the loved one behind this time .I'll be there to enjoy and find new pastures(and hopefully a girlfriend who likes walking)

Good on yer,Martyn.
When you find that girlfriend, ask her if she has her sister,or friend.

Oops. It should have been "if she has a sister". Preferably in her twenties or thirties, looking a bit like Halle Berry...
I wish...

Knowing your luck she will look more like Chuck Berry.

Now there's a blast from the past.
