Something beautiful is happening on here, right before our eyes.

Kate Bush
She must be one of the few people in history to release and album with a school boy smutty title in pure innocence.

I refer to -

Kate Bush - The (W)Hole Story

The record company omitted the brackets.

Ahhhh.........Herbie Von K.
I've been smitten since I heard the Berlin Phil's early 60's Beethoven cycle.
Never saw the great man myself,so to have observed him in Berlin is a blessing indeed.
Strange that you should mention him as I am currently listening to his recording of Prokofiev 5.(Nimrod.....if you're not familiar with this symphony I urge you to check it out.You can hear where John Williams goes shopping for inspiration).
I'm also a great fan of Joni Mitchell.....Hissing Of Summer Lawns Is My Favourite.

Ok........I've taken the liberty of posting the poignant lyrics to one of Normans favourite Joni songs. I appreciate being drawn back to this forgotten song from Court And Spark.

"Everything comes and goes
Marked by lovers and styles of clothes
Things that you held high
And told yourself were true
Lost or changing as the days come down to you
Down to you
Constant stranger
Youre a kind person
Youre a cold person too
Its down to you
It all comes down to you.
You go down to the pick up station
Craving warmth and beauty
You settle for less than fascination
A few drinks later youre not so choosy
When the closing lights strip off the shadows
On this strange new flesh youve found
Clutching the night to you like a fig leaf
You hurry
To the blackness
And the blankets
To lay down an impression
And your loneliness
In the morning there are lovers in the street
They look so high
You brush against a stranger
And you both apologize
Old friends seem indifferent
You must have brought that on
Old bonds have broken down
Love is gone
Ooh, love is gone
Written on your spirit this sad song
Love is gone
Everything comes and goes
Pleasure moves on too early
And trouble leaves too slow
Just when youre thinking
Youve finally got it made
Bad news comes knocking
At your garden gate
Knocking for you
Constant stranger
Youre a brute-youre an angel
You can crawl-you can fly too
Its down to you
It all comes down to you"

Down To you..........Joni Mitchell

The passing of Syd Barret has prompted to name my favourite Pink Floyd song (though not written by Syd) - Comfortably Numb. A terrible version by the otherwise excellent Scissors Sisters, has brought it back to the fore and now I am hearing the definative version frequently on the radio. Dave Gilmour's guitar solo still send shivers down my spine.
Other notables I forgot to mention:
God Only Knows - The Beach Boys
Macarthur Park - Richard Harris
Caveleria Rusticana - Pietro Mascagni
The theme from "The Vikings" - Mario Nascimbene
Gladiator - Hans Zimmer
Baker Street - Gerry Rafferty
In The hall Of The Mountain King - Grieg
O mio babbino caro - Puccini
Sleeper's Awake - Bach
Shepherd's Hymn - Beethoven
Daybreak from Daphnis and Chloe - Ravel
Bolero - Ravel
Also Sprach Zarathustra - Richard Strauss
The Blue Danube - Johann Strauss the Younger (not related)
Smile - Lilly Allen
Unfaithful - Rihanna
The theme from "Kidnapped" (David McCallum's television version)- composer unknown
The theme from Harry's Game - Clannad
North By Northwest - Bernard Hermann
Exodus - Ernest Gold (husband of Marni Nixon and father of Andrew Gold)
Matty Groves - Joan Baez
The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down - Joan Baez
Shenandoah - Old American folk song
The Battle Hymn of the Republic - Joan Baez
We Shall Overcome - 19th century protest song
Three Score and Ten - Old sea shanty
Brother Can You Spare A Dime - Bing Crosby
Old Man River - Paul Robeson

So Dr BB - as a world famed psycho-analyst,how would you judge my mind in relation to music?

Nimrod,

Did you catch the late Tommy Vance on the radio 1 rock show on New Years Eve in 1981 (or was it 1982?) when he reckoned he could play that guitar solo back to back repeatedly and never tire?

I feel I could agree with him.

bongo,

thanks, a supberb song.

I was in a pub in West London on Monday evening during an " open mic " session in a bar called Filthy Mc Nasties, when a young black girl got up and did 3 Joni songs.

Just sheer raw talent and passion.

Although I felt a bit of a dinosaur in the midst of a bunch of students, its a night I will not forget because of this Kids energy and talent.

It gave me hope in the youth of today.
