Yes, until the mid-eighties the electorate had a real choice, which is what democracy was meant to be about. Then Bliar saw how the tories were winning elections. copied them and replaced Labour with New Labour. Now Cameron is envious of New Labour being in power for ten years and is edging the Conservartives towards becoming Blue Labour. So no real choice again at the next General Election - and who do we think we are trying to tell Iraq about democracy and impose our 'values' on them ?

Sammy, It takes a warped mind to interpret continuing an interesting discussion as venting frustrations. Schoolboy Politics for me meant getting a good grade A Level in British Constitution. Sadly it seems you are just determined to be perpetually negative on here.

Thatcher - one big mistake (a childish slur), Blair's one mistake - Iraq (the merits of the Iraq war are debatable but I assure you he's made plenty more - the fostering of the PC culture being one among many) The electorate always vote more against one than for one (a ridiculous 'Sun' reader's generalisation.)

As for choice - sadly it's largely only a perception since the advent of the EU. We are bound under their constitution legally and therefore their governance. The advent of the Euro will complete the process of voluntary capitulation.

Sammy. On occasions I have posted my opinions, just as you now have done in your latest post. I am more open minded than to dismiss the thoughts of others as "polarised position pronouncements" and fid it more constructive to use reasoned arguments against opinionins contrary to mind than to feebly try to dismiss them with comments such as "childish slur" and
"ridiculous Sun readers generalisation". As for the Euro, well that's another topic for debate, but, like it or not, when I'm more likely to be paid by Euro cash than Sterling cheque, it looks as if the Euro's here to stay.
