Harland,
Thanks for this! Doesn't sound too bad temp wise. I am still expecting lots of rain and wind. My sleeping bag is Canadian and I should be toasty at night....just getting out of the tent and folding it up in heavy rain will be fun!

We actually had rain yesterday, the first time I recall since well before Christmas. It took a slight dent out of the massive snow banks we have at the moment but it is going to take several weeks to get rid of it all. The sea ice around the Island is as heavy as in recent memory. No ferries can operate. Once it loosens up a bit the seals will drift in along with the occasional polar bear. A polar bear was injured by a snow plow in St. Anthony on our Northern Peninsular last week. We have had polar bears in Quidi Vidi village which is essentially in St. John's itself.

Looking forward to seeing some daffodils and primroses in my mother's garden before the train ride up to Wick. Will not arrive in Wick until 10:15pm and will camp there two nights. I'll take the local bus from there to JOG on the 21st and start the trek. The first 100 miles or so are familiar and hope to start the Great Glen Way before the end of April.... still hoping to meet up with you at Kirk Yetholm.

Cheers, Chris.

Harland,
Flying via Montreal tomorrow. Our snow is starting to dissipate but there is still huge amounts of it around. Assume there will be none in London on Sunday morning! ooking forward to seeing the conclusion on the marathon near Birdcage Walk.

Singing tenor with the Newfoundland Philharmonic Choir tonight at the St. John's. Basilica. Singin a Bach Oratorio. Et Terra Pax Vivaldi, Zadok the priest by Handel, Mendelssohn's Elijah", we finish with bannedperson "Wie Lieblich" from his Requiem.

The walk will be a much more daunting task but we will have several hundred attending the concert tonight and so the timing of it has put some of my walk prep on hold. Best wishes for your PW walk. Again hope to meet up with you at Kirk Yetholm.

Cheers, Chris.

Weather looks good:-

UK Outlook for Saturday 26 Apr 2014 to Saturday 10 May 2014:

Overall, there are no strong signals for any particular weather type to dominate during late April and into early May. This leaves conditions more likely than not to be mixed with periods of largely fine and dry weather interspersed with occasional more unsettled spells with showers or outbreaks of rain. By day, temperatures are likely to often be near or a little below average, but still feeling pleasant in the sunshine when winds are light. Nights, meanwhile, may be chilly at times with a touch of frost possible.

Good luck, don't push too hard at the start you can always make up time when your body has got used to being abused!

Harland,
Arrived on Sunday. Went to Buckingham Palace to see the finish of the marathon. It felt really warm. Mo was struggling at the end.
Picked up a hum dinger of a cold starting Saturday morning, thank goodness hours after singing in the Basilica. Feeling pretty miserable but the timing is :OK: since I should be feeling much better by travelling to Wick on Monday. Hope so.
I note the weather is very pleasant here in Retford.

Yes, I will go much slower this time down the A9. I have a ipad and hope to get a signal to post my progress. Still hoping we can meet on the PW. Cheers, Chris.

Just over 3 weeks before I start, I am really looking forward to it. Let's hope that we manage to meet somewhere during my walk, if not then perhaps I can catch you on the way through Yorkshire.

Harland,
Sounds like a good plan, brother.

If I am not at KY by the time you are I hope to post progress through the PW. Would enjoy meeting up with you. I think I may follow your stages in reverse. Where is Harrogate closet to on the PW? I think I would be half way at least from KY.

Still feeling knocked out by a sudden heavy cold but at least the nose has stopped dripping but I am very chesty. Info you didn't need to know But we "finely tuned athletes" monitor every ache!!

I believe I may be starting in rain for a few days but hope the longer forecast is upbeat.

Cheers, Chris.

Gargrave & Malham are probably the closest but when I know your rough itinery closer to the time we could work something out. E.G. I could park at Gargrave and walk toward Malham and then walk back with you.

Sounds good. I am purchasing a phone today and so will send the number to you. I think Malham is over half way so if I do not see you in KY I shall look forward to our "Livingstone-Stanley" meeting later on the PW!

Going for an extended walk with full pack tomorrow along the Chesterfield Canal which is four minutes from my mother's house.

Cheers for all your prep as well.

Chris.

Les,
Thanks for your response.

I'm a bit nervous but hoping to be successful one step at a time. Enjoying a week of English Spring after a dreadful Canadian winter where we in Newfoundland saw 23.5 foot of accumulated snow. Don't mind seeing it in the Highlands at a distance!

Cheers, Chris.
