Maybe its me Dave, the cushioning doesnt seen as good, I can feel stones underfoot more. I use green superfeet in mine though so maybe they have seen better days and are causing the problem. My local supplier of superfeet doesnt stock them anymore so I'll need to find some on line and give that a go.

Too soon to tell for me Les, as Ive not tested them out really. The uppers are defo of lighter weight material and first impression is they are not upper supportive as their previous.
As Spine training has now begun with a 10 miler yesterday averaging 4mph on the flat canal path, I will soon give them a good grounding, so we will see.
Dave.

Let us know what you think once you've given them a good work out Dave, and good luck with the training

Ive now worn them on a training walk of around 10 miles and yesterday up hill and down dale whist supporting our club runners at the British Fell Relay Championships.
I think you are probably right Les, they do feel harder under foot even with Sorbothane Double Strike insoles. I have e mailed North face to ask if they have altered the shoes mid sole.
Dave.

Les, I asked them if they had altered the Mid-sole in the shoe. Their reply is that they haven't, so I will have to persevere. I know the ones that I have had, have always required quite a bit of breaking inn.
A pal has just got a pair of these, and gives them a good report straight out of the box, so I am considering these too.

Just remembered what you said Les about toe box height. The Hoka's would probably suite you afterall as the toe box is height is on the low side.

Hi Dave
I'd have put money on them saying that, they never admit to anything but its odd that they feel softer to both of us. I used to like that slight stiffness in the old style ones.

The Hokka shoes look interesting, anything with extra cushioning underfoot is well worth a look in my book, thanks for the tip. I've taken to taping the high points on my middle toes with all footware when walking now, just as a precaution really and for extra protection for when my feet swell late on in the day.

Another shoe Ive seen mentioned alot in the US through hiking blogs etc is Brooks Cascadia 8 and 9, seems very popular with the ultra long distance hikers (even though they are originally a running shoes). Im not sure how to do a link but Google with final lots of reviews etc.

Les
