Hi Joyce and Colin.
I see that Forest View is a compulsory check in point for us full Spiners in January.
Will you have any re-supplies available as in snacks to take away and bottles of soft drinks etc.
It also looks like we are being diverted again up the forest track to avoid that bog.
Cheers Dave.

Sorry about the delay we have got the builders in again and we are trying to get everything finished by thursday so I haven`t had time for forums. What sort of thing were you thinking of? we will have soup on the go from late Wednesday-late Friday. Some guys who passed through on a training session said that last year by the time they got to Byrness they were craving meat they suggested bangers and mashquick and easy and good hill walking fuel.Is it cereal bars, mars bars and snickers etc that you were thinking of? Just say and I will make sure it is here. Joyce

Thanks very much Joyce. By the time anyone gets to your place, as said we will all have had enough of cereal bars and fast energy food. Real food is what everyone will be wanting, so soup, bangers and mash would be ideal. Of course some will just want to pass through as quickly as possible, but I am sure many of the by then, diminished field would not be able to pass on the chance of a hot snack.
Dave.

Hello Dave,
Know you will be deluged with well wishers for the weekend but for what its worth my best wishes also.
I have resolved to do the PW this year on the basis that my troublesome feet can cope with 15 days but maybe not 30+ on the SWCP.
Can you tell me about the forestry track to avoid the bog you mentioned? I don't equate bog trotting with fortitude so will take a clean boot option where reasonably possible.
Also going to get on with the accom planning soon so; hello Joyce and Colin; how are you fixed in early /mid June at the moment?

Regards

John

When I walked it in May last year it wasn't too bad as a lot of slabs had been laid to get past the very muddy patch so the diversion wasn't necessary. However it was very wet, steep and muddy up through the Byrness Plantation. The good bit at the end is that The Border Hotel have reverted to giving you a free pint, the previous time I did it you only got a half!

Yes it was the pull out of Byrness that was quite slippery and I had more than one moment when I was slipping backwards. I didn't do the last leg to Kirk Yetholm in one go taking advantage of the lift from Joyce to and from Trows Farm and staying at The Forest View Walkers Inn for 2 nights. Whilst if I started early I could do the whole thing from Byrness in one day I didn't want to be rushing (for me!) and ending up at Kirk Yetholm quite late in the day. Being retired with no pressure on time I wanted to take things relatively easy and finishing with lots of time at The Border Hotel for a relaxed drink or two, a meal and then set off early in the morning to get home. I should mention that The Border Hotel were very good. I wanted to set off quite early to catch the first bus, they left tray in reception for me of cereal, a flask of milk, another of orange and another of I think cranberry juice.

Any chance of an accommodation list Harland?
I know you did one from the SWCP for me a year ago. That will come into use in 2016!
