The first of four programmes about the Pennine way and the Jubilee is on BBC1 on Friday night in the North East /North West & Yorkshire (I would imagine that they will then show one each Friday at 7.30.) It is being shown again on BBC2 across the UK at a later date. There is also a feature on the Jubilee in the Guardian Travel supplement on a Saturday soon (the journalist wasn`t sure which Saturday but it will be available on the Guardian website. The Radio 4 series is being aired on the 7th,14th & 21st of May at 11.30.

I watched all the programmes but I could only get them on Demand, they weren't shown on TV here. Nice to see you (Joyce) and Colin put in an appearance. It brought back some memories but there was a lot to do with the periphery in many of the programmes and less to do with the walk itself! A touch over glamourised and no real indication of how tough the walk really is!

Exactly my thinking, I intended to watch the programmes again before commenting to check my initial view but I must admit I was disappointed although pleased that Joyce & Colin as well as May's Shop at High Gate Farm were given time.

There was a series of programmes on BBC2 about 20+ years ago about 4 teenagers walking the Pennine Way which was far better than this. I copied it on my VHS recorder at the time and on occasions, when I can remember how to set it up, I look at it again as it showed the path in all it's glory, mud, rain, sickness. blisters and sun. They would have been better off doing something similar rather than showing potholing, climbing and canoeing!

Evening,
Just stopped by here on the off chance as this site is pretty quiet these days which is a shame. Anyway nice to see you in print again Harland. I too was disappointed in the series of programmes. We got them on bbc in Yorkshire other than episode three I think but caught them all on I-player. In truth Julia Bradbury was a lot better on the C2C in 2009 and that itself was a bit gimmicky. The guy was an unimpressive presenter and I learned nothing about the walk; which is a shame as I am starting it a week on Thursday. I will see you on the 17th/18th June Joyce (pleased to know Colin cleans boots!!!).
Wonder if that old programme you refer to can be tracked down?

Regards

John

The details on the programme are in the following. I don't know whether the BBC could be leant on to show it again - it would be cheap for them. From memory it was a series shown on BBC2 at about 08.30 on a number of Sunday mornings.
