A campaign for the 190-mile Coast to Coast walk to be given official National Trail status has begun. This will give it even greater prominence, if you are thinking about walking it do it now or else accommodation may be difficult to find. See the following:-

Read A.W. Coast to Coast guide
He would not have wanted this.
I walked it years ago and before I finished it, i teamed up with another walker who said "Wainwright did not created a walk , he created a business"

I have mixed feelings about it being a National Trail that will then get used by even more people than it can support at present. I think that on balance however I would support it as it does bring in a lot of income for the residents and having National Trail status and the financial support will enable it to be maintained in a reasonable condition.
