Back in January I promised Steve the landlord of the tan Hill Inn, during the Spine race that i would return and clean the side room carpet, free of charge after seeing what a mess it was after the Spiners had passed through. He had generously left the room open all night and put on hot food.
It was just a matter of scheduling it which has taken some time as they have been very busy. I arrived there at 7am yesterday morning, the one room became six but what the heck, i had allowed all day.
Unfortunately Steve and his wife Viv are leaving the Inn soon and we are hoping that the new tenants will be as supportive of the event that Steve and Viv have been. The owners are now in residence and will be running the place for a least a few months.

I hope that the new owners have similar characteristics as the previous ones! I found it most entertaining listening to some of their "conversations" with their customers.

So...the people who had just taken over in June 2015 have now left..and the previous management (owners) are back in situ?
Presume the bunkhouse facilities are still available? although they were a bit ropey at the time

Yes John, correct, it remains to be seen how things will develop. It didn't sound too encouraging though as it was mentioned that Steve's staff were running for cover when the owners are around. Made it sound like they may not last the test.

Stayed a night there about 12yrs ago when over in the UK doing a Le to JoG. Room was 35 quid then. Bit rumpity but a welcome break from the tent! Pretty isolated, but given its history and being 'the highest pub' I hope it survives into the future.

The owners have been trying to sell it for over a year now. They wanted Steve and Viv to buy it but Steve didn't want the financial burden. Steve and Viv made it work and they made money, it was very busy, probably still is but finding a buyer seems to be a problem.

They seem to have dropped the price but at £900,000 you would have to sell a lot of food/drink/accommodation every day/week to make it worthwhile although I do love the place.

Or they could buy Forest View Inn in Byrness for about a third of that price plus there is a 3 bedroomed owners house included. Seriously if anyone knows of anyone looking for a career change we need to retire as this has become way to busy for 2 old people like us to handle and we desperately want it to be bought by someone who cares about the Pennine way. It will be a sorry day when you go but make sure that Colin's boot cleaning duties are in the contract when you sell.

So they probably haven't managed to sell it, just rented it out.
