As many of you will know Ive been on the starting line of the Spine race 4 times previously. Coming within 16 miles of the finish in 2013, and finishing in 2014.
This year is my second attempt to be the first over 70 years to finish (actually 71 years 9months) and set an O/70's FKT (fastest known 'verified' time)
Ive raised money for Breast cancer research in past years doing the National 3 Peaks.
This time however I have chosen to try and raise funds for cancer research, in memory of my brother in law Alan Aldred who recently passed away after a brave 2.5 year battle with Lung cancer.
I have chosen Prostrate Cancer UK in particular because a member of the Spine family, Robin Tillbrook who is a former Spine racer and full week volunteer last year, gave up his place in this years Spine race to myself, as following a complicated knee operation, he felt he wouldn't recover in time.
Since then he has been diagnosed with Prostrate Cancer. He has had surgery, treatment and been given the all clear. He is an absolute inspiration to us all in the manner in which he has dealt, and is still dealing, with this.
I will be posting the Live Tracker link soon for the race start at 8am 14th January, my number is 176.
Please donate to my Just Giving page. Just a £1 will make a difference and will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. David Lee
