Might I recommend the above walk, although, as far as i am aware, there is no definitive guide.
The route can be found on a map in the bar of 'The White Horse' in Rosedale Abbey and it's a case of identifying the route and good map-reading to complete the circuit.
It starts in Rosedale Abbey and the first day (approx 20 miles)takes in Farndale/Bransdale/Baysdale/Westerdale and then overnight at The Lion Inn/Blakey (well known to all c2cers). The second day (approx 17 miles)comprises Danbydale/Fryupdale/Glaisdale/Hartoftdale back to Rosedale.
Parts of the route touch the c2c and as you can determine is quite strenuos due to the constant updale/downdale. The walk is a wonderful introduction to see the NYM at their best.
'The Lads' have completed the walk 3 times over the years at various times of the year - fave been august when the purple heather is in full flow.
There are 3 pubs in Rosedale Abbey offering accomodation and the route is fairly well served by pubs/cafes although there are many many great picnic spots overlooking the various dales so a pack-up would not go amiss.

This sounds like a good walk. We are planning to do the lyke wake walk in May and this could be a good training exercise (37 miles in 2 days).
A couple of questions:-

Do you remember enough about the route ie on public paths or landmarks it passes, to enable us to have a guess without having to go to rosedale to get it from the pub?

Can you camp at the lion inn (with a dog)?

Any pointers would be appreciated.

hi strenn1e - lightweightmicks suggested book should have all you need - it will probably tell you in that book to ensure you carry all your food/liquid as the walk only passes through a few small hamlets. This is very important on this walk.

Good luck on the LWW - over the years i've done it 6 times (3 each way) but due to serious erosion, i made the decision about 10 years ago, never to do it again. Things may have improved on certain sections now.
The best way is west to east - we used to start when the pubs shut in Osmotherley approx 11.00pm on a friday night so could finish anytime between noon/4.00pm on the saturday. We always walked as near June 21st as possible so only had about 5 hours in the darkness/gloom. Suggest you keep your stops to a minimum as you will soon stiffen. You will need a van/car support at various places en route. Watch out for the sting in the tale - Jugger Howe - near the end - its a bit of a killer on tired legs

Strennie - Dogs are warmly accepted at the Lion, and fine on the campsite.

There is also a posting of this route almost straight in front of you as you walk through the door. Haven't tried it yet, maybe I should ....?
