I am staying near Garsdale next month and am wondering if anyone knows of any good day walks (about 10 miles)in the area.

Hello Andy

Walking wise it depends whether you have transport - if so there are plenty of decent walks over the central core of the Howgills including some good walks from Sedbergh. IMO the best is Cautley Spout and the Calf from Sedbergh - about 10 miles.

Pub wise the only one I have stayed at is at Garsdale Head called the Moorcock Inn - it is very good. See their own website for accommodation and menu etc.

I have stayed at the Bull Hotel and Dalesman pubs in Sedbergh and both were good. There is feedback on b oth on the Dales Way Sherpa website. I would suggest the dalesman is the better of the two buit it is 12 months since I stayed there.

Thanks for the info Journeyman.

The 'Cautley Spout and the Calf from Sedbergh - about 10 miles.' walk sounds worth a look.

Thanks
Andy
