Hi,

Does anyone know why Sherpa do not offer baggage carrying south of Malham on the PW?

We are walking the PW later this month and after excellent service last year on the Coast to Coast would have loved to use Sherpa. We did contact them and they suggested we use local Taxi companies to move our luggage to Malham. On contacting some of the companies they said they didn't provide this type of service. Result - reluctantly we are using another courier for the whole route.

We are also considering doing the Pennine Way sometime and would love to use Sherpa again but they do not start the baggage service before Malham, so I would be interested to know the baggage firm you are using for the whole route.
I know Briggantes do the whole route but I think they only do it on the dates of their ittineries of their self guided walks,is that correct as far as you know?

Howie, I do feel a little guilty discussing other courier services on the Sherpa forum but as they do not provide a specific service for the whole route I guess it is OK. Brigantes will do any date for a price and for us that price is 290 for the two of us - 145 each. Pricey I know but we are prepared to pay it and it will make our PW adventure much more enjoyable.
As I said,we would have preferred to use Sherpa but they do not cover the whole route.

Thanks for your reply, yes I was also quoted 145 per person by ******** but I thought they only done the Baggage transfers to coinside with the dates of their self guidedPennine Way walk. Yes I think I remember them saying they will do any requested date as long as there is a minimum number of bags to transfer, but I can't remember the minimum number they quoted.

Howie,
There are only the two of us in our 'group'. If you don't ask...
Good luck!

The same price was what we paid, and again, only 2 of us in our party. However, I think the way it works (and probably the same for all courier providers on all routes) is that one driver might do a run up about 4/5/6 accommodation areas, collecting and dropping off accordingly. So while there may only be 2 in your party, there may be 4 in the town ahead of you and 6 in the town behind you! Around Keld, one driver might be doing a few accommodations on the Pennine Way and a few on the C2C on each morning.

It would be good if Sherpa did the full route, so that there was not a monopoly. Then again, there might be only enough business for one provider before Malham! Similarly, I have found only one full-length provider for the Offa's Dyke Path, which is my next target, for 2008.

QWe are sorry we cant cover the PW south of Malham, bu there are only so many hours in a day. We do however provide details of people who will move bags between Edale and Malham.
We do operate every day from Malham and we are a lot cheaper than 145 a head.
