More likely a Buzzard than an Eagle, which you would be very lucky to see at the best of times as there is only one known pair in the whole of the Lake District. As a matter of fact it is now feared that one of those has perished leaving just the one.

Watched the Coast to Coast on BBCi Player, last night. Was'nt Swaledale a beautiful sight, a sight for sore eyes. I probably take the lower path on my forecoming Coast to Coast, seen them lead mine working's on my last 3 crossing's.

I'm also planning to do the lower route, mainly because I'm doing the Keld to Richmond stage in one day. Does the lower path 'save' much time or is it just less stress on the body ?

I'm only doing the Keld to Reeth section, booked into hostel. But the lower path is only 11.5 miles and 900' of total ascent, also with two pubs available en-route, can't be a bad thing.

The con's of this path is the many squeeze stiles along the grassy meadows, but the pro's is a much gentler walk and not's so much steep climbing than of the high path

I dropped down to walk along the river when approaching Reeth - mind the rabbit holes!

I did the river path,but I think if there is a next time,it will be following Wainwright's path.

if your off on the lower route take time to explore the many waterfalls, you have to go a little out of your way but if there is any water in the river they are well worth the detour

One of the advantages of the Swaledale option is that you can make a minor diversion to Muker - a real gem of a place. We spent the best part of an hour just sitting in the sunshine at a table outside the cafe there, writing the odd postcard and enjoying the high quality coffee and flapjacks!

I'm not quite as bowled over by Julia as everyone else seems to be. I like many of the programs because of the photography but she just doesn't come across to me as a "real" walker"! I sometimes wonder whether she does the complete walk at all, or just short stretches for the film crew!

For example, I've just watched the 4th instalment of her C2C series. She appeared to switch between a blue and a white jacket at least two or three times. The only explanation I can think of is that she didn't do it in one session at all but did different bits at different times. Me cynical? Never!

There was also a nice picture of the footbridge at Muker early in the programme, even though she took the high level route!

She also made a comment elsewhere giving her view that Catbells was popular because of its "proximity to Windermere" - leaving me feeling even less convinced by her!

Of course, this is probably blasphemy to her many fans...!
