Made up for it today with a brilliant, but shower laden walk from Westerdale up to Blakey Ridge, passing Fat Betty, where the sun came out in all its glory and back down to Westerdale. Nimrod Hi Mark, did you walk on the road to Blakey Ridge or on the route of the Rosedale Circuit towards Botton, maybe even straight up the dale then turn of above Farndale. which ever way you went it would be a good walk Hi Tim, We came out of Westerdale and made our way along to Esklets, where the scource of the Esk is,and then climbed up to flat howe, before crossing the Blakey Ridge road and across to Fat Betty, missing out the road going around Rosedale Head. Then following the path from Fat Betty,we walked along the road for a while which goes on to Castleton, over looking Danby Head and Botton. We came off the road at High Stone Dyke, passing Broad Gate Farm and getting back to Westerdale by Christy Gate Road. It was a lovely eight miler. Nimrod

Hi Mark, followed your route on the map and it looks a good walk, will have to remember to walk it some time when i have bit to spare, i could start from the Old lion as it would be nearer to drive. it reminded me of a time when did the L.W.W. unsuported. We had a rest and some refreshment at Exklets, The walkers had all brought some tins or packets of soup. we were trying to heat them all in a pan on a fancy stove,( a block of porous substance)soaked in meths. only trouble was we had no lid for the pan and the heat was escaping and the food was not getting warm, any way some one had the bright idea, to put another pan on as a lid. the thing was the pan had been stood on the ground and when it was taken off all the rubish it had picked up off the ground was in among the soup. we sorted it out as best we could. ate it. Then we went on our merry way, before we had got to Flat Howe we had a contest see who could throw or regurgitated refreshment the farthest. Pleased to say there were no aftereffects

Pleased to say there were no aftereffects Hi Tim, The LWW doesn't go through there now - I believe the farmers were not too happy. It is good to see you used a bit of common sense there. Nimrod

hi Mark, yes the first time went after the farmer closed that route we found we had to go to the Old Lion, mind you it was better track, the climb out off Esklets was very boggy. there is walk marked through Eskletts cannot think what it is called.

ahhh get me out of here before I bore myself to death.
Don't be so negative. 2010 just might be a better year for you on here and in life generally.

How about removing all those ads for shoes, bags, etc that have appeared recently.
