Hi all

I am hoping to do the whole Pennine Way in one shot and from what I have read to date most people seem to do it South to North. Is this correct and if so is there any rationale for this?

I would prefer to do it North to South - any comments or advice welcome...

Many thanks

I did it North to South. The obvious comment was that you don't get to see many people for more than a few moments as they are all walking the other way!

The climb up to Anchope Cairn on day one was a bit of a shocker - but doable. The descent down into Dufton was a bit of a killer at the end of the Cross Fell day (although maybe better than the climb up it). And the sharp descent off Pen Y Ghent was a bit breathtaking.

Otherwise it was pretty much plain sailing and very enjoyable.

South to north reasons, simple ones. The guide books are written that way. The maps are the right way up.The sun is not in your face.Day light gets longer (by just a bit).

Just do it!
And don't be afraid to make your own variations to the route.
