Gateway to the Lakes

Julia Bradbury follows in the footsteps of guidebook writer Alfred Wainwright by walking across the whole of northern England. Enthusiasm is high as Julia begins her adventure at the western extremity of northern England, St Bees Head. The west Cumbrian coast is an industrial strip lying just outside the Lake District, but as Julia reaches the doorway to Wainwright's favourite playground the weather deteriorates, leaving her to tackle her first Lakeland valley in appalling conditions.

Don't forget that it is on tonight.

Just seen it on BBCi, not bad. I think Wainwright's version is better.

Thanks for the reminder Harland - I'd forgot.
They portrayed it all in a very romantic light...

i was very disappointed at the way the program dismissed the opening section of the walk from st bee's lighthouse to dent i suppose with only six episodes they have to make cuts somewhere,i wait with baited breath to see if the pin up girl of the wainwrights walks gets blisters !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it took three weeks or just over to film it,so obviously a lot will be missing, but I agree with your point as it gives the fear that they may cut out the finish at RHB (although I doubt it). I love to see her down a couple of pints when she gets there.

Yeah - we want the truth - beer and blisters! Why is there something attractive about girls being laddish? The only time my other-half downed a pint (from a pint glass) is the night before the marathon we finished together... and she finished stronger than me, ha ha!

Check out an article in the Country File ,which is about people on the route, such as Doreen in Keld and the new owners of the old YHA there.
