"With VC's and the counter thingy it was much simpler..."

I gather you didn't have contact with the "video 2000" system then.

Talking CDs and DVDs. +R -R RW. Weve got a multi format DVD player/recorder. Yet when I burn a DVD or CD on the PC, some play on the Player some dont, and the message comes up - incorrect format, or the disc nedds formatting, which if you, do wipes it clean. If it's a multi format player why can't it read all discs?
Dave.

Far too much contact with them. They were an engineers nightmare and I often spent 2-3 days finding one fault. The recording quality was far superior to both VHS and Betamax but like anything developed by Phillips it was completely different to more conventional equipment and difficult to work on.

Dave, load the DVD s onto a PC and then try burning them onto a DVD-R disc or DVD*R disc rather than using a re-writable disc.I have done this when they fail to play on a multiformat player and it seems to do the trick.

Cheers Tony, I'll try that.

The associated cameras were meant to be portable. They were .... just ...... with the assistance of a friendly forklift driver.

I'm thinking of getting the DVD to remind us of the walk, and also see the bits we missed cos of the fog, like top of Loft Beck and Nine Standards. Ennerdale/Borrrowdale was an unknown bit of the Lakes for us and despite having walked it we still haven't seen it!

If the DVD is the same as her programme on TV then it should be worth getting it.

However whatever you do don't buy the "Aerial Britain - the Coast to Coast Walk [DVD]" it is rubbish! The helicopter flies off route to look at other interests and frequently goes round and round in circles making you dizzy. It is nothing like the wonderful DVD that was put out for free by a walking magazine of the Pennine Way some years ago.

The one I've got is the TV series - I reckon she's at Round Hill trig point on the cover..? Same as on Amazon, hence the link...

I wish SC, Phillips 2000 was the bees knees as I remember. I was in a band in '76 - we made the New Faces all winners show, won by Mr Carling and Mr Walling - 2 teachers doing a comedy act (a group called 'Wine and Roses came 2nd as I recall) Mr Carling died not too long after before they established themselves (though I seem to remember they did the Royal Variety), but Mike Walling went on to be a successful writer (anyone remember Brush Strokes..?) anyway the show was recorded on the V2000 but video recorders were rare then and nobody else (at least that we knew) had been able to record it.
15 minutes of fame and all that lol - we worked for the same agent as Marti Caine and Bobby Knutt with quite a good following on the Northern Clubs circuit - shame he didn't have the more common Sony Betamax... I don't think the VHS system had been launched commercially at least then... so those 15 mins of fame have been lost for eternity laugh (mind you, it's probably just as well!)
