To answer your curiosity...
I was doing the C2C at the time she made the doco.
I passed by her and her crew on a few occasions only to find they had 'leapfrogged' ahead of me in their vehicle to film at a further location. wink
Still, nice that they've made a documentary on the C2C, I'm hoping it will eventually surface down here in NZ.
now then I have it on good authority that she has a body double to do some of the more arduous sections, including the walks in the lakes she attempted I cannot reveal my source but it comes from pretty high up (scaw fell pike)

Well, I had heard previously that they used a body double to do the aerial shots of her standing on peaks at the start of the general Wainright Walks series - but that's the first I'd heard that she used one for general walking shots. Seems a bit pathetic if it's true!

I would be very surprised if they used a body double as she completed the Coast to Coast after she made the climbing programme. She certainly showed a fair degree of both fitness and courage on that programme so I can't see a Lakeland pass giving her any problems.Having climbed Stoer myself in the seventies I know the level of fitness required to get up it,far more than you need to do a section of the Coast to Coast without a heavy pack.I suppose they could have faked it using computer generated images of her high on the stack but I am quite sure they would have been found out sooner or later.Yes,she is a bit superfical and shallow but that tends to be the trend with modern presenters.

there as been a lot of talk about , wether the lady in question, has cut corners or had a stand in.
i think we are missing some thing here .
it is program for T.V.and as such maybe brought a bit of delightfull scenery in to homes of people who have not had the chance to go and see for themselves, and also brought back some memmories to those who have walked the c2c, who are now not able to walk it.
as A.W. said about his books, they were there so he could relive,in his old age, the places he had visited, only thing he had could not see too well in his old age.
what i always say when people acuse some one of cheating on challenge walks, "the people who cheat are only cheating themselves"
you do these things for our own benifit and that is all that matters. i suppose some one will come on and say "the lady was not doing it for herself, but for money"

Well, yes, I'd say that "doing it for money" is significantly different!

If someone is walking the C2C for themselves, for fun, then who cares whether they cut corners. That's just for them and their conscience. But that's not the case with Julia is it.

Incidentally, I am enjoying the programs as they bring back memories from last year - the Julia issues are just a small source of irritation!

Good point Ern. At the end of the day, she wasn't in a race or competition, so whether or not she walked every yard matters not - I think the excellent thing is that the BBC? deemed it fit to pay someone to make a series that showcases some of the UK's scenic spots and maybe provide a bit of inspiration. smile

Well said,Geo.
Doing such a walk might not conform to a televising schedule. Are we going to have a bee in our bonnet if she did have doubles,or leap frogged it. It is,in essence, capturing the spirit of the journey. I would think our Julia would do the entire walk in her own time. It is not for us to judge the integrity of the programme. As Geo said, she is not in a race or a competition, she is not doing it for charity,it is a television programme.
Anyway,if our Julia says she did the WHOLE walk, then I would rather believe her than the second hand words we get.

I think it's more a matter of her being open about what she's doing.

Yes, the main thing is to have an attractive interesting TV program, but I prefer to be treated like an intelligent human being. This means she shouldn't pretend that she's walking it continuously or that she's not accompanied by a film crew when it's quite obvious that these things aren't true.

Surely there must be ways of making this sort of program interesting whilst still being honest with viewers at the same time?

Why not find her website and ask her yourself? Frankly,I am not duly bothered. Do it before Friday - she's off to Africa to some walks over there.
