Hi all,

Myself and 3 friends are doing the DW from Ilkley to Bowness in June. It's our first attempt at a long distance walk.Though we are reasonably fit.

Our plan is : Day 1 - Ilk -Grassington 16 miles?
Day 2 - Grass-Buckden 11 miles?
Day 3 - Buckden-Dent 23 miles
Day 4 - Dent -Burneside 21 miles?
Day 5 - Burneside- Bowness 12miles?

How does this sound to those who have done it? We did the Beckermonds - Cam section the other week, so hopefully have seen the hardest bit in advance!

I'm a bit concerned about Grassington as apparently there is a diversion at a farm somewhere? Does anyone have any clear up to date info on the route to take on this -or tips to avoid us getting lost - I have the OS maps.
My other concern is not having too much Dent Brewery liquid refreshment! We are staying at B& B's en route.

thanks

Lee

If you look at the following it shows the diversions:-

Let me know how you get on as I might do it next month.

I did the DW last year in 5 1/2 days.

You have 2 pretty long hard days from Buckden to Dent and then next day onto Burneside. I'd have spread the mileage over the first 4 days better but I'm sure you'll cope and I presume you already have your accommodation booked.

Bit of advice if you're a CAMRA fan, don't use the pub in Burneside, get a taxi to Ings and visit the place for your dinner and a 'few' ales You know it makes sense

Thanks for the CAMRA link -definately a fan! Yes we have two tough days in the middle, but I was determined to stay in Dent village (I feel a pint of Avaitor coming on) so it was tricky to balance out the mileage - but then I found out about the Sportsman's after I'd booked!!

The diversion in Grassington isn't a problem, the track you turn onto is clearly signposted and then the path through the fileds is obvious. I've never had any trouble there, not sure what all the fuss is about. Good luck!
