A decompsed body in a tent has been found in forefstry near the WHW near Auch estate. Police say it might have lain for up to two years.

Human remains discovered in tent

The tent was discovered between Inveroran and Bridge of Orchy
A human skeleton has been discovered in a tent pitched in a forest near the West Highland Way.
Police said the decomposed body, found in an isolated spot between Inveroran and Bridge of Orchy on Friday, had probably lain there for several years.

The body has yet to be identified and officers were scanning missing persons reports "as a matter of routine".

Detectives said there appeared to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

The remains were discovered by forestry workers as they cleared a path for a proposed scenic walk in Auch Forest near Bridge of Orchy.

They contacted police, who conducted a forensic investigation at the scene and removed the body.

It is understood that it was unclear whether the victim was male or female.

A post-mortem examination will take place in Glasgow next Tuesday.

It is so sad that this person was not missed enough to have had a search implemented.

On Sunday I was out with the Coniston Mountain Rescue Team looking for a guy who had been reported missing. We were out for most of the day and had support from other rescue teams, search & rescue dogs and an RAF helecopter. If this person found in Scotland was so close to the West Highland Way then he/she may have been found in time. Very sad.

We had a similar case in South Wales about 10 years ago. A dead German man was found in a tent deep in a local forest (there are no tourist hiking trails in the immediate area). A local mans dog was attracted into the forest and thats how his remains were found. Apparently the tent was deliberatly well hidden by branches etc. He almost certainly decided to zip up his tent and let nature take its course. A thought provoking way to end it all. Doom gloom doom gloom........

One might expect more people to choose death in a tranquil forest rather than in a noisy dirty hospital.
