[quote=SteveInLeicester] Just because I'm a keen walker and camper doesn't mean I can't enjoy watching sports does it?.

I think I said the C2C is about walking and what few good pubs there is do not need to lose there charm with having sky tv showing football in your face, while some of us want to discuss walking issues without having to wisper. I am sure some pubs have it, but me and my jack russel harry will avoid these places that are full of drunken hooligan louts.

where do we draw the line, shall we have Mc donalds at blacksail, and pizza hut in grassmere. do you realy want the lakes to become a clown of the place you left behind??????

As you said, "I canot realy help you as I am a true backpacker who camps under the stars with a fire and detest people who stay in bed and breakfast with their little packed lunches made for them wraped in a paper bag."

Mr. m/ark, truly you do not detest (To curse by calling the gods to witness, execrate, detest. To dislike intensely; hate; abhor) us gentle folk who like to come to your great country and walk about looking at your fine scenery and enjoy the hospitality of wonderful (for the most part) B&B proprietors.

We certainly can appreciate you hardy true backpackers who can go for days unsupported by creature comforts. Do true backpackers find it OK to stop at a pub for food and ale? Surely you can pack all your food and drink and don't need to join mere mortals at public houses.

Like I mentioned in an earlier post, maybe this town (message board) needs an enema. You're doing OK by me, even if you hate the likes of me -- especially me since I'm planning on using a baggage service on my next walk.

no I dont dislike you, I just want to protect my beloved lake district from losing its charm, I do carry all my food, but I need at least ten pints to keep me going, plus spot my dog likes a drink.

I can agree with you. We don't want to turn the C2C into a boutique walk.

BTW, what are you doing up this late -- what time is now in Cirencester now, 2:37am?

If you're interested in football you should play it - much healthier than watching others do it ( a bit lkike sex really ).
If though for whatever reason you do support a football team then you should attend their matches and not let a walk keep you away.
There's no excuse for being a couch potato sat infront of a goggle box for ninety minutes.

Getting back to your original question, I think you might struggle to find sky TV in Alston and Nenthead. Neither are that big. If you are doing the C2C, you might stand a better chance in Kirkby Stephen which is on the C2C, and possibly a bigger town than Alston and Nenthead - and roughly where you would be at that point on the C2C.

I think it seems perfectly reasonable to want to watch your football team whilst doing a long distance walk. Can't see any problems with shagging in the mountains either if you're discreet about it.

Lizard, you make a few assumptions: What makes you think I don't play football? What makes you think I don't go and support my team? For the record, at 48 I'm a bit old now to play at any serious level, and I never was any good anyway. Also for the record, I do go and support my team and wouldn't let a walk keep my away. What seems odd is that you seem to think the two pastimes are mutually exclusive. It's not difficult to work out that one can easily go to a game on Saturday and a walk on Sunday. Also there's no footy in the summer. As for needing an excuse for being a 'couch potato sitting in front of a goggle box for 90 minutes',I don't need an excuse. I happen to enjoy it. Mark, I agree entirely about wanting to preserve the beauty of the lakes, you can see the difference on the C2C when you reach Grasmere. Cigarette ends and litter on the floor, total commercialisation of the town. I'd hate it if all the lakes became like that, although I think it's only a matter of time. I'm not sure TV programmes such as those by Julia Bradbury help matters. One more comment, I must admit to being one of the unshaven ones. Camping and carrying my own kit, I find shaving gear one of the easier things to leave out. But having worn the same underwear and T shirt for days I think a bit of stubble is pretty insignificant. But then I'm just a football hooligan and couch potato it seems.

Well I am glad you all agree with me, we need to boycott pubs who show sky tv, lets keep the lakes free from the likes of sky and Mc Donalds, I think you will find it is against the law to have sex in a public place, so people who think this is ok are just criminals.

I dont think some of you realy understand the danger of sky tv, when I go on my walk I want to forget about the state of the country and the getto the labour part have turned it in too, it is so refreshing to go away and forget about the world, if sky is in every pub then I might as well stay at home and walk around the block with harry and spot. plus sky tv will atract all the riff rath, which we realy dont want to see in the lakes do we? besides are American freinds dont watch football and cricket, so why ruin it for them.
