Hello one and all... just turned 40 and decided to do the c2c to celebrate.
So far planning and everything going ok. No kit issues. Have almost got the bag and stuff in it sorted. Started booking camping etc..... One problem though, I would like to camp near to Grasmere but so far the tinternet not much help......
Any advice. Thought I might wild camp as a last resort on the high lvl route between Rosthwaite and Gmere.

There are no campsites at or near Grasmere, itīs far too posh for the likes of us sweaty campers. There are a few hostels though. Wild camping is always an option but I like to be near a pub. Another option is to skip Grasmere altogether and go straight on to Patterdale, where thereīs a great site

Personally I'd camp the other side of Grasmere, up by Grisdale Tarn seems a popular spot. Stock up with good food in Grasmere and head off up the tongue as its getting dark.

You could camp before Grasmere, but that day is easy anyway so might as well walk a little further.

Sorry to intrude, but how about skirting around the south end of Thirlmere and making straight for Patterdale?

Can't be more than about 13 miles...

I went Longthwaite to Grasmere in one go. Instead of going down Easdale or the Helm Crag ridge from Greenup Edge, go down into Withburn. Take a right at the road bridge, walk up for a while until just past the forest on the left, over the stile and follow the stream up to Grisdale Tarn (Good wild camp). Or carry on down the Grisedale valley to Patterdale. Allow 10 hours with stops)
Dave.

Thanks for the suggestions wild camping Grasmere looking favourite, bar starting my own campsite! I often wonder what elements would make up the perfect campsite?

Dont know if ale on tap would go well with freeze dried bacon and eggs........actually there wouldn't be anything freeze dried on the perfect campsite so no problem.

Stone walls, slate roof, carpeted floor, comfortable bed, electric light, log fire, showers - but then that's not really a camp site is it ?

Not if you have a forty four ton truck like mine.
Hotel Mercedes Benz.
Bit hard to get over the stiles in that though.
Maybe I can just forge a new path straight from start to finish.
Makes it easier for those following......

I hadn't thought of that, so might have to seriusly reduce the daily mileage.

You can hire a helicopter to follow you .... might put the cost up a tad though.

How much does it cost to hire a yak? Do herds come at a discount rate?

You could go down the company yak route but I've an alpaca is a much more economical alternative and the tax burden is less. About 200 miles per bail!

Hey thanks, LL - I ended up watching intro clips from 'The Lone Ranger', 'The Avengers', 'The Saint' and 'The Prisoner' - what a trip down memory lane that was... amazing what people put on there!
cheers

I don't think the helicopter thing is going to work because 1) you would need one of those Soviet things that look like some kind of insect/transformer and 2) lets face it the Russian Fed aren't exactly rolling in cash so there might be some maintenance issues like not getting off the ground or worse not staying off the ground!

Maybe you could take it across piece by piece?

No, thay don't make films like that anymore, and more's the pity.
Is it any wonder that the only cinema I go to nowadays is the one in town that was converted into a Wetherspoons ten years ago ?

MASSIVE SCREEN TV
