I'm planning to do ODP, south to north, mid-July 2010 but need to end in Bodfari. Can anyone tell me if there's a bus or if not, other transportation from there to Chester?

Looks like an opportunity for LL to explain what you will miss by not finishing in Prestatyn!

This one's a bit better, both in the music chosen and in getting away from the town ;

Well thank you for that LL. I have read your other posts about Prestatyn (and by the way we have a few coastal towns here in Canada that aren't on what one might call the "A" list of must-see places) however that's not the ONLY reason I need to finish my walk at Bodfari. I really do need to get the Chester.
So.. anybody..., will I be able to catch a bus Bodfari that can get me to Chester or should I plan on continuing into Prestatyn?

If you look at the following it appears that you can get from Bodfari to Mold and then from Mold to Chester. I don't know if this is the easiest way but at least it appears that you can do it.

Thank you both very much. Knowing this helps immensely with my planning. I'll keep an eye on both sites to make sure of the times for late July. A big help!

Although Canada must have just about the longest coastline of any country in the world I somehow had never thought of it having coastal towns.
It's unfortunate that mention of Canada to British people of about my age will most likely first bring to mind this ;

Ha! Huge Python fan! Well done. Oddly enough I just finished watching the full doc series "Monty Python ALMOST the Truth!" As I recall they poked at Wales'..., and OZ.., Scotland.., Ireland.., certianly England. In fact not much was taboo for them. And every time I 'cross the pond' for a walk I kind of look for a 'Faulty Towers' experience. GOTTA LAUGH eh?
Back to Offa's Dyke ("..and now for something completly different."), can you recommend the most convenient (and affordable) way to get to Chepstow (Sedbury) from Birmingham airport?

The journey by train would take about 2 hours with two changes of train e.g.

10.13 Birmingham International Airport to Birmingham New Street arrives 10.27

10.42 Birmingham New Street to Gloucester arrives 11.23

11.45 Gloucester arrives Chepstow 12.26

Cost £29

Or probably cheaper if you book in advance but that restricts you to specific trains which means you've wasted the fare if the plane's delayed and you need a later train.

mot that I've met any remotely like that on the Coast to Coast path.
And they didn't have to resort to bad language to try to get a laugh.

Thanks again to you both. Very much appreciated.
LL, I'll try to watch my bad language. Guess my colonial 'Canadianism' showed, eh!

Looking at several quotes. Most have the same start as in Chepstow to Monmouth, to Pandy, to Hay-on-Wye, to Kington, to Knighton but then it's to Cwn or Brompton, to Buttington, then to Trefonen, Nantmawr or Llanymynech, then to Castell Dinas Bran/Llangollen or Froncysylite, then to Clwyd Gate and to Bodfari. THose are the suggested itineraries to date.

One way to solve the transport problem is to walk the entire route to Prestatyn. The town may not be up to much but the walk from Bodfari to it is OK.
We did:-
Chepstow - Monmouth
Monmouth - Pandy
Pandy - Hay on Wye
Hay on Wye - Kington
Kington - Knighton
Knighton - Montgomery
Montgomery - Llanymynech
Llanymynech - Trevor
Trevor - Bodfari
Bodfari - Prestatyn
10 days in total. As your proposed intinary is 11 days, you could break one of our days days if you wished. Anyway it seems a pity to only walk the route to Bodfari. It would be a case of so near yet so far.
There is a good railway link at Prestatyn to get you to Chester.
Dave.

"The town may not be up to much" - I doubt if even the local Tourist Information would say it was that good, but yes there's a good train service from Prestatyn to Chester, half hour journey, £9.50 single fare, and on weekdays from about 5am to after 10pm there are some 40 trains a day so you shouldn't have to suffer more than about half an hour waiting to escape.

Thats a great idea!
Looked like I was going to be waiting for the evening bus to Chester anyway. Might as well spend the night, finish the walk next day and take the train from Prestatyn to Chester. Plus a £9.50 'half hour' train journey would be better than the bus via Mold wouldn't you say?
Thanks very much Slogger & LL. I'm going to ask my 'providers' to quote on that. Will let you know how they respond.

Well, quite the spread in quotes between the main four providers for 12 nights accom/12 days walking w/luggage transfer, maps/guide books not required (I asked Sherpa but unfortunately they don't do the whole of Offa's Dyke).
Something that I've noticed and would appreciate comment on, though Iíve repeatedly expressed my preference for pubs/inns over B&Bís whenever possible they all continue to list mostly B&B's in locations where I have found, using both this site and the Offa's Dyke Association Accommodations site, suitable pub/inn options. Iím no novice (really LL) and I do appreciate that at some locals it just canít be done, but after a day of solitude on the trail (again, my preference) I do enjoy the company, conversation and 'flavour' found in the local pub/inn. For those of you who have done Offaís Dyke, are the local establishments you've used and/or passed along the way really not Ďreferableí or is there something else at work here?
I would certianly appreciate any recommendations of pubs/inns on or not to far off the trail that provide food, drink, and accommodations.

Im not 100% certain on this as we did stay in B&B's but perhaps not many pubs en route offer accomodation?
You dont have to stay in a pub to enjoy company anyway, although if you are meaning with other wayfarers - you may find you are the only one. For a National Trail its not that well walked.
After Monmouth we only came across one other person walking the route and thats because we caught him up. He started a day earlier.
Dave.
