Would you be willing to commit to donating 25 to mountain rescue services in England and Wales, if at least 19 other people also commit to doing the same?

Then please visit http://www.pledgebank.com/mountainrescue

Apologies for anyone who can't spare 25, but I've pitched the pledge at that level because I think that most people should be able to, particulary if you consider that an overnight stay in a youth hostel can very easily cost that much by the time that you include meals. The total sums of money needed to keep the rescue teams running are rather scary, but hopefully a total of 500 from this little initiative will be of some help.

Incidentally I am not connected with mountain rescue teams myself, and thankfully neither have I needed their assistance, but as a regular walker I admire what they do, and hopefully most people here will feel the same.

Thanks,
Alan

I haven't visited the site for a few days....sooooooo busy here at work.

It is Mountain Rescue Awareness Day on Monday...Me and Teazle (the rottie of course) will be rattling a tin in Coniston. I have told Teazle to keep quiet when people say what a lovely SARDA (Search and Rescue Dog) she is !!

Shame I missed you both ... I have just been away to the Lakes for 5 days. Last Monday we went to Fell Gate and I got my wife up White Maiden. On second thoughts, I have a such a soft spot for SARDA that I would probably have donated the whole week's budget had I passed a SandR dog with a collecting tin!

I once knew an Alsation called Deb who was involved in many, many rescues. What a fantastic animal she was ... unless you have seen one working it is hard to believe how much they enjoy the activity. The owner/dog bond is quite unbelievable.

If ever I get lost I want a SARDA dog to come and find me!

I am thinking of asking the admins of pledgebank to delete this pledge, as nobody else has signed up to it. I tried to promote it by posting links like the above on what I though were other relevant (i.e. walking-related) forums, but the messages there got deleted or ignored, which is a bit sad. But before I concede defeat, does anyone want to pleasantly surprise me by signing up to it themselves and by finding some appropriate places to plug it? Thanks.

Hi Alan,

I appreciate how difficult it is to raise money for charity as I too am on the begging end sometimes. But there are so many worthwhile charities out there people have to draw the line somewhere.

I think you have certainly done your best and your idea about using related forums was good in theory. But it hasn't worked and you must not get too despondent. You tried and that is all any charity can expect fundraisers to do. We are currently trying to get funds for new landrover ambulances..it is b!!!*** hard work so I empathise. We have set up a Support Group to help with raising money and I think it is quite successful but we still need megga bucks. If people do not donate for whatever reason that is fine, no worries at all.

Embrace the fact that you tried, and now move on to another group to target. Good luck Alan and thank you.

Not so fast Alan - I've signed it - maybe we can generate a bit more interest?
cheers
