Husband and self did this route in May, using Sherpa Van luggage transfer, which worked very well throughout.
For anyone who likes the Dales but has done the Dales Way (and the Pennine Way) this is a good route, including Ilkley Moor (Bah't 'At if you feel like it!) Malham, Kirkby Fell, Settle, Ingleborough (Whernside optional), Blea Moor, Sedbergh, the Howgills ridge and Orton Scar, finishing at Appleby. If you start at the southern end you can return via the Settle-Carlisle line, as we did. We took a leisurely eight days and were lucky with the weather. Certainly worth consideration.
