Here are the places where it is easy to go wrong if you are not on top of the map.

Lanehead, east of Sandwith (yes, it is the overgrown path beside the house, squeezing past the parked car);
Bell House farm, east of Sandwith (keep straight on along the farm track, ignoring signposted path to left);
Moor Row (just follow the map really carefully);
Path from Nannycatch beck to Kinniside Stone circle (watch for path climbing out of the valley to right);
Black Sail Hut (walk along front of hut and straight on in same direction to faint path through grass. Do not take the more obvious path half right which crosses a small stream);
Watch for sharp left at Twopenny Crag before Kidsty Pike in cloud;
Between Rosgill Bridge and Parish Crag Packhorse Bridge (watch for stone step stile and ignore track to right);
Oddendale (donít take bridleway heading east);
One mile south of Oddendale (watch for path half left, past corner of plantation);
SE of Blakethwaite Smelt Mill, Gunnerside Beck (official route turns up left before you reach the signpost, or just scamble your way roughly eastwards on a maze of tracks to the top of the hill);
Thirns Farm, west of Reeth (follow track uphill to pass in front of cottage);
Just before Reeth, on Skelgate Lane, watch for gate (unmarked) into field and aim for gap and then stile through school paying field!;
Marrick Priory/Abbey (watch for path slanting up half left to join the Nuns Steps;
One mile beyond Ingleby Cross, in Arncliffe Wood, take the second sharp left, not the first (i.e. not along the fairly level forest road but along the rising path beyond, Cleveland Way signpost has disappeared);
Two miles east of Grosmont, follow signpost across Sleights Moor along clear path and turn left along A169 for a few hundred metres (do not bother with route via Flat Howe, there is no continuous path through the heather);
Graystones Hills heather moor, south of Hawsker (carefully follow the posts, tending right of the stream at Stony Gate Slack, and find the gate to the lane in a tangle of rough county);
Robin Hoods Bay (difficult to find the top of the hill after a detour via the Bay Hotel).

At this time of the year the best indicator that you have gone amiss is that you don't pass another walker for 5 minutes!
