That's interesting Dave - I was thinking of Steel End, Wythburn and Greenup for next attempt, as the descent to Dunmail is better I think (for my purposes at any rate) - Steel end and your route looks better as I have to consider negotiating it in the dark if legs really bad and it was the thought of the Lining Crag that maybe influenced me last year... I dunno Dave what have I started here lol..?
Can't seem to zoom in to 25k though on your map but I'll check it out,
cheers

My feet appear to have heard about this next attempt and are rebelling as we speak.............I may have to leave them at home and do the walk on my knees.

The only thing is Mick, from the end of the path at top of the forest up from Thirlmere, to the top of the path that steeply descends to the main Rosthwaite path, is cross country (no paths). Looks simply enough to navigate with the help maybe of a compass, but not sure about the nature of ground vegetation. I may go and have a look around soon.
Dave.

Hmm, ...can't believe the difference in the pathless underfoot going from Measand End to High Raise from End April early May last year to July August - just from the growth in the grass - not to mention the bracken growth that really sapped my strength. Definitely a consideration - x country certainly can make a big difference and finish tired legs!

sorry mate returned to the wrong thread, but RE avatar pic posting:

click on 'My Stuff'
'Profile'
scroll to bottom to:

O URL to your avatar (Your image must be smaller than 80x80 pixels; .gif, .jpg, .png accepted)

click on above radio button and add the URL (your image must be on a server somewhere - you may be able to link to your facebook pic though..?)

it worked okay for me...

Dave, it does work linking to FB image - but stretches it a little - hence it being fuzzy - (the CP logo was from my web page) - go to facebook and right click - select 'copy link location' and paste this into you URL. It can be any image already on net but no bigger than specified ie 80*80 pixels
