Cheers Dave,
I've mapped it out in stages up to Gibson Knott (to Ronald's schedule). The aerial photography's good and being able to combine with map is useful, but they could make it much more user friendly I'm sure... and I still haven't worked out how to edit yet. I've suggested (to the designers) they have a 'save' button and a 'progress bar'. But as my desktop has gone internet unfriendly I'm currently downgraded to a laptop with only 256k of RAM... which is infuriatingly slow (I'm looking at upgrading to 1gig as the SODIMM are avilable on eBay) and hopefully this will speed up the saving...
Yeah, positive reinforcment works wonders for moral. It was a mistake (one of many...)not to press on after Lordstones. As you observe, once positive mental attidude becomes eroded, you quickly begin to get that sinking feeling!
I hope you find the map thing useful btw... cheers. I'll post the stages on here again (as the original 5 day thread is gone) when I get a 'roundtuit'.

Tony, no I haven't tried the specialised stuff - it may well be overpriced..? I'll check it out... cheers.
-latest experiment with PS is to drop some into cup soup - this softens them and adds an acceptable sausage flavour! Not sure yet whether to add the mash or take out the scratchings once soft and put aside or to modge it all up together. As I'm actually losing calories at present I'm a bit reluctant give up me real food!
Thanks for the warning btw - I've got a filling or two that wouldn't take much upsetting...

Ern - ha ha, yeah, the cracklin's the best bit! We'll just have to suck it!

LL thanks for explaining the editing (or lack of it) - just gonna have to proof-read all posts then...
cheers all!

as cottagers, the old people used to keep a pig.
and after they killed it they salted it down and all the offal was
used , the leaves of fat were rendered down for lard and the remains of the fat were called scraps, i believe, now they were as tasty as crackling and not as hard.
you could still get them at Scott's pork shop, in York, until quite recently

That's right, nothing wasted except the squeal.

ooo, it's getting exciting... lol!

AS the original thread is lost with changes on the site, for anyone interested the E-W 5 day schedule works out thus:
(This based on RT's original - apart from Day 0 - Ronald stays on the cliffs on his 1st night - as a writer and photographer one good shot of the sunrise over the North Sea would be well worth the extra miles on Day 1!)

(8pm start)
Day0 RHB – May Beck 9
(1st night)
Day1 May Beck – Grosmont 5.5
Grosmont – Lion Inn 13
Lion Inn – Lord Stones 12
Lord Stones – Beacon Hill 5.5
(2nd night)
Day2 Beacon Hill – A19 Services 3
A19 Services – Kiplin Hall 13
Kiplin Hall – Richmond 9
Richmond – Reeth 11
Reeth – Cringley Bottom 3
(3rd night)
Day3 Cringley Bottom – Keld 7
Keld – Kirkby Stephen 12
Kirkby Stephen – Orton 11.5
Orton – Robin Hood's Grave 2
(4th night)
Day4 Robin Hood's Grave – Shap 5
Shap – Patterdale 15
Patterdale – Mill Bridge 7
Mill Bridge – Gibson Knott 3
(5th night)
Day5 Gibson Knott – Stonethwaite 6
Stonethwaite – Ennerdale Bridge 14.5
Ennerdale Bridge – St. Bees 14.5

Each stage ends with shop, cafe, pub etc. or the night's destination, of course.
Feeling good on Day3 one could push on to Shap and erode some of the next day by getting past Gibson Knott and the Dunmail Raise - Steel Crag (as suggested on site) is a strong contender (with a stove it's tempting to give the Traveller's Rest at Mill Bridge a miss and buy something tasty in Patterdale) and am now thinking likewise with Kiplin Hall...
So, no injuries - built up nicely - feeling fit and positive and the window of opportunity could be early-mid June!
As I see it, and from experience gained on the last attempt, the testing days will be the second full day in getting to beyond Reeth and the last day on wrecked legs!
cheers

Well, all set for 8pm start on Saturday. I've made some changes to the above schedule here and there that have reduce the mileage a little. If you're finishing around this time give me a nod! I'll duck into the Bay Hotel to sign the book... again... High Pressure if on the way for next week - so, fingers crossed.
cheers all,
thanks to all who have given me support!

Many thanks!
I'm glad somebody's confident!
Ready... willing... but able? I'm beginning to get all sorts of niggly aches and pains from winding down...
Doubt if I'll see anyone at Keld this time! Should be early doors all being well - I was looking fwd to the cafe there but I don't think she'll be open... I'd better carry a couple of pork pies from Richmond for breakfast to see me over Nine Stds!
cheers
