Don't worry Ern .... unless it's 2 MPH downhill. Even then you'll overtake me!

Tim ... by the way, did you see the filming of Countryfile? I haven't seen it but I have heard it was about the Wolds and the Kiplingcoates Derby.

(Don't tell me ....... you took part in the inaugural race!)

LWM, thanks for the Age Grading.
I've not done that since the 90s when I ran with Colchester Harriers AC,-a very supportive and encouraging club that routinely graded everyone's runs.
I regularly got 'bronzes', occasional 'silver' and a precious 'gold' (1998, MV55, 5km, 22min 30sec). I was briefly a member of a Boston club in 2003, but there was no comparison. (300+ members CHAC, 40+ B&DAC)
We keep trusting that we'll always be able to do what we did in the past, -albeit more slowly, with gradually increasing problems.
We'd accept this stoically; - my old grandad used to say "old age doesn't come by itself").
But the idea of a sudden deterioration, a major sea-change in ability is not one I like to contemplate.
Today's fab weather has been tempting me to go for a jog/plod in the evening sunshine, but Mrs.RB's hearty steak pie dinner has put paid to that, so I'm back with the diy (a wardrobe to finish), then I'll try for a short jog or a 10 mile walk on Thurs or Fri. (9 weeks to C2C)
Ray

Thanks for the birthday wishes.
We went down to Crawley in West Sussex to our sons, for a few days.
He's a bit of a joker and gave me a wrapped present. I unwrapped it and thought he'd got me a blow up Doll!
On fully unraveling it, it turned out to be an inflatable 'Zimmer Frame'.
Dave.

Hi Slowcoach,
yes I did see it on Country File, and no I did nottake part in the Inaugural race , I am not that ancient!
it looks a tough course.
as a rule the second one in gets more money than the first
I think the first one gets the interest from an investment and the second gets the entrance fees of all the riders (or a pecentage)
I keep promosing myself I will go up and watch it , but never do.

I have been to see it a couple of times, the last time about 4 years ago. It makes a worthwhile day out. If you go for the first time I recommend going to the end to see the finish. Seeing the finish and the start is quite a challenge.

Most (but not all) winners return their winnings to the pot to increase the interest for future years. Today it as about £50. The second horse gets all the £4.25 entry fees. So, if there are more than 12 horses the second placed jockey gets more than the first. There is a fascinating little book about the history of the race available

One of the founders of the race shares my surname. If I can prove a relationship I could enter free (if, of course, I could borrow a horse)
