I'm now deciding on walking the Southern Upland Way and not C2C (sic) It's always been my wish for a long time to do the SUW and here's my chance to do it with a mate.

Hoping to set dates for mid-May and take around 12 days to complete it.

Good point there, Dave. I was never like this in my younger days of walking, but I'm terrible for changing my mind nowadays and my mate is on tether hooks, saying he's been on a emotional roller-coaster and not surprised either. Happy we have settled on 12 days and I'm happy at that, so looking to booking in the dates with boss, then I can rest my case and settle down in my old age blush .

I've decided to back off from this one, which is a shame really. I've let a mate down, but I've wanted to do some cycling for 2012. Walking is going to take a back rest, I'm planning the Coast to Coast walk for my 60th birthday, which is in 2016.

Mark
See my other posts and links on this thread.
Discreet wild campers (you know what I mean: arrive late, depart early, leave no trace) should have no problem finding somewhere to bed down.
Bothy sites are good, whether you sleep indoors or in a tent. Replenishing food supplies needs forward planning.

Well, after an operation to reconstruct my knee in November I am now back and ready and raring to go.

It is a little known fact that if you are unable to use up all your annual leave at work due to ill health you can transfer it over to the following year. An employment tribunal has ruled that annual leave is a right and not a privilege. Hence why I have been able to transer 22 days (yes, twenty-two days!) annual leave over from last year to this year. The only problem is, my boss wants most of last years leave use up by Easter, which isn't unreasonable. So after a week away groundhopping watching football, rugby and greyhound racing, I've been asked to use up another two weeks which is why I start the Southern Upland Way on Sunday morning.

I'm walking east to west and I'm in the process of re-booking all my B&B's and pubs again. I'm really apprehensive as this is my come back walk after my injury and I have put on a good stone since I injured myself. But heres hoping it all works out and I complete the way. I only hope I remember to read Stottie's comments in Behive Bothy!

Envious is the word!
Hope you have a great trip with no knee problems.
I await your account as it's on my 'to do' list.
All the best.
Dave.

Sentinel
May the wind remain behind you.
May the rain move to south-east England.
Good luck!
