Thinking of walking the WHW next year, just me and my dog. Found all the places to stay, but this is quite a lot of money. can any tell me details of campsites, or is wild camping ok. What about bothies along the route.

My husband and I are also making plans for next year, possibly May or June. I haven't priced out the accommodations yet so I'm curious as what figure you came up with. We usually tend to stay in hostels rather than high priced places. Thanks.

thanks for that, unfortunatly I'm walking with my dog so YHA wont take us. Hence the one day will have to be 20 miles just to find a hotel that will take us.

Thanks for the list of places to stay. I'll check each one out and see what I come up with for 2012. After the WHW we are walking along the Great Glen Way so if anyone has any recommendations for it I'd appreciate them.

The first overnight stop is a way off the GGW however they picked me up and took me back in the morning. It was worth staying there as "The Commando Museum" is in the hotel and well worth a visit, the Commando Memorial is just up the road. Food and drink good too!

I've looked at the places for the WHW and with the exception of the Alma View in Fort William everyplace is still active and surprisingly enough the prices aren't that much higher. I'll check out the GGW places as well. The SYHA website is very well done and lists walks available from their hostels. I was noticing that the Crianlarich hostel has some nice walks that get you up high to enjoy the views. Have you walked any of the trails from there?

The only walk I made from there was to the "Rod and Line" pub where Rangers were on the TV playing FK Zenit in the UEFA cup final. After Rangers had gone a goal behind and they looked likely to lose (which they did 2-0) I returned to the youth hostel to get an early night.

However I had a lovely filling meal in the pub of haggis, neaps and tatties and a few pints to wash it down.
