SJ - 8/9/11:
'It is necessary for the overnight locations to be controlled and they are both on sites with a sympathetic landowner.'

That's with the landowner's permission then.

Now that bit does puzzle me.What is it? A CIA undercover mission or a walk in the British countryside?Controlled? Is the perimeter patrolled by armed guards with dogs? These guys must be The Sixteen, those who are above the SAS.

...and the first is 'beyond shap' and 70 miles equates to Smardale and beside water (for the dehydrated 'evening meal') Nothing to get excited about. Hardly
as stjames says:
'...vulnerable location(s that) would pose a security risk'
What kind of security risks are involved? - certainly not being discovered because they have the landowners permission...
We should remember that sgtjames wasn't part of the group that SC came across at Scarth Gap - he was doing a 100 hour solo at the time:
see 23/4/11:
'I came upon this site as a favour to a person that I met whilst undertaking a solo unsupported 100 crossing'
It it any wonder the tracks are so well worn:
'I shall continue my 4 and 5 day and 100 hour crossings...'
...and does a 65 hr crossing every year:
'Since returning to civilian life I have personally achieved the 65 hour challenge solo every year.'

Surely the most prolific of Coasters...

MI6 are biding their time before 'taking him out'. They'll not have any problem finding him lol - he's cutting a groove up there!

The best place to ask is on ARRSE.If its an annual challenge someone on that forum will have heard about it.

If he is genuine then he only has his self to blame for us disbelievers. There are so many discrepancies.
I was pesimistic from the start having witnessed fantasies in the past, like the guy from our own club who when asked about his marathon PB seems to knock a minute or two off every time (I don't say anything, but I am well aware of the truth). Then there the London Marathon runners who run with home made numbers and those that jump in for the last two miles to get a medal, then no doubt boast about completing the race. Numpties the lot of them.
Dave.

This reminds me of a bloke from Leicester who announced he was going to walk from Leicester to Lyon in France and back in 15 days.He got a lot of publicity in the media and said he was raising money for Age Concern.According to the reports he was going to sleep in police stations.Of course he arrived back in Leicester to huge fanfare after completing his "walk" in 12 days. What the mayor failed to do was to congratulate him on his new world records for 1000 miles and 1,500 miles on the road.It was pretty obvious he had got lifts for part of the way but the fact that police signed his check list stopped anyone from questioning his integrity.I can't remember his name but going on his photo it was pretty obvious he was no athlete.

During my climbimg days, I was an avid reader of 'The Climber' magazine.
In it's Himalays report there was an article about the first ascent of the Lotse (part of the Everest horseshoe) South face, which Tomo Cessan, claimed to have soloed to success.
This guy was was a well respected world class mountaineer, however the only photo of his alleged ascent was along range shot, showing him about a third the way up. Apart from that there was no other evidence in his favour.
It was standard practise to have photographic evidence and a summit shot.
Much critism followed. basically calling him a liar. His stance has always been that as a mountaineer of good repute, he should be taken at his word. Unfortunately for him that just doesn't happen, and his reputation disintegrated.
Of course he is the only one who knows the truth of the matter for sure.
Dave.

I really find this sort of thread rather pointless, boring and an indication of point scoring and egotism.

In the end you either achieve YOUR goals under your set of conditions or you do not. If you achieve them on your terms you will have the long term satisfaction of knowing that "you did it!", if not, you will eventually be forced to acknowledge that you failed. To quibble about it is irrelevant to most who read this forum so get over it and get on with your life!
