Rumour that the tenant/manager has done a runner. Website appears to be offline.

No money in it these days - I refuse to take pubs on anymore - they can't afford to pay a window cleaner these days. I got one, last cleaned Dec, doesn't want me back till March. That's no good to me.
Which one is the Sheperds again is it the good one or the 'bad' one? I've only ever used the latter on my attempts.

The Shepherds is the "bad" one as you put it!
The Fox and Hounds is far better.

Long as the F&H is still up and running come June 2013.
Good Food.
Good Beer.
Might not camp behind the church next time though.
May consider eating/drinking then plodding on to the lake and find a spot there,if it's still light and the weather is okay.

My feet appear to have heard about this next attempt and are rebelling as we speak.............I may have to leave them at home and do the walk on my knees.

Well this is the link to their website and telephone number.
However the website seems to be down and their telephone number gives a dead line sound.

I am booked in to this place in July. Spoke to Sherpa about this and was assured that all would be ok and if not I would be contacted and given other accom.

When I was last there, they were owned by the same person The Fox & Hounds and the Shepherds Arms. I have stayed in both. Unscrupulous proprietor at the time!Tried to overcharge me!But no problems with rooms or food! Now it seems the Fox and Hounds belongs to the villagers in a co-op Buyout and the Shepherd's Arms?
There is very little accommodation around these parts. The last time I stayed was at Ennerdale View, in the next village! Highly recommended!

The Shepherds re-opened last night. It's being run by Keith from the Kirkstile Inn. As yet not much has changed inside the bar but the beer is excellent and a vast improvement over the Fox (at last you can get a good pint of beer in Ennerdale Bridge). The menu looks good and as the food at the Kirkstile is good I expect the Shepherds will be too.

Sadly the Ennerdale View in Kirkland has closed. I don't know if the new owners have plans to re open it.
