Hope that the rain has stopped by them .... it's really quite wet in the east at the moment!

Stephen

I'm with you in spirit. I walked Coast to Coast about 5 years ago, and my first day took me almost to Ennerdale Bridge. Next morning I took off early and deviated from the Wainwright route to walk over Great Borne to Red Pike and along the ridge. The weather was clear, and the chance was too good to miss. By the time I'd walked over Haystacks I was feeling tired and took a couple of short breaks before dropping down to Rosthwaite.

In retrospect it was a hard second day, but I wouldn't have missed it for anything. I was full of energy next day, so no problems there. I think some people struggle with navigation after they leave Black Sail Hut. Some miss the path up Loft Beck, whilst others are confused in the mist when they reach the flatter ground above Loft Beck. From your posts on this forum you both seem well prepared, and I wish you a happy time.

The second day is only really challenging if you take the high level alternative route! Whatever you itinerary, the key is to enjoy yourself, walk at your own pace, always eat and drink sufficiently and enjoy the rain and the wet days as well as the dry ones!

For everyone who is walking the coast to coast this year, I envy you, for the walk itself, the friends you will make and the fun you will have. I still want to walk it again for a fifth time, but the Pennine Way has my attention for this year! So Good Luck! Maybe see some of you around Keld!

We start our trip on May the 9th, driving up to St Bees on the 8th. We walked it last year around the same time and got a mixed bag with the weather, although a bit drier and warmer than it is now which is a concern. However we are B&Bing it all the way this year no tents or camps in sight!! looking forward to it but concerned over this winter weather holding on.

You may be on route when I start my sub 5 dayer. I will not be starting before 13th May, but aiming (at the moment) to be in RHB no later than 21st.
Dave.
