I used Stedman and Martin wainwright, plus the full set of OS maps.
Didn't stop the wrong turns tho............
Its a walk. Not THE walk I told myself.
Dunno who I thought I was kidding.
Not taking my Prized AW c2c antwhere near the weather.

My feet appear to have heard about this next attempt and are rebelling as we speak.............I may have to leave them at home and do the walk on my knees.

I also used Stedman. I love reading the AW guides at home, or in the evening on route, but my eyesight isn't good enough to use it on the move.

You could probably do the walk with just the Stedman,it has everything you need, but to go across the Lakes, or the Moors without a proper map would be foolish, imho.
Mind you even though I had all the os maps, I only used them a few times after some directional malfunctions became apparent.

I forgot to mention that I had the old OS Maps 33 & 34 as well.

Hope you didn't plan to get a consensus. Maybe you'll just have to count the votes. As for me, the Steadman Guide and Harvey maps worked very well.

Is this instead of getting lost? As has been stated before, it's "a" walk not "the" walk so we can't get lost! Our route just happened to involve going round in circles at the top of Loft Beck - but I didn't get lost!

Thanks everyone for you help and suggestions. The M Wainwright book sounds just about the right supplement to have with me. Once again many thanks.

Ahh!
The old Circular Loft Beck route, via the knee deep bog, routine.

Only 14 days to go, just want to get stuck into it now.
I'll let you know how it goes.
thanks

Just a thought, do you use 'Twitter'?
Some of us on here doing the 5 day thing allow a couple of other members to follow progress by way of 'Tweets', so that those that are interested on this forum can be kept up to date with progress.
