Hello all
My wife and I are walking the DW in June. Just wondered if anyone has any 'handy hints and tips' that might be useful on our walk. Cheers.

My wife and myself did this over 8 days, the norm is 6 days.
How long are you planning and are you B&B or camping?
Dave.

Hi Dave
We are walking it over 6 days, staying in B & B's with baggage transfer!

It's a great route especially in good weather , so best of luck with that.
I don't know your itinary but most have the longest and hardest day from Sedbergh to Burneside, but its all easy going with just a couple of ;ow grafe ascents.
Dave.

Use the White Lion at Cray if you can! (just off route from Buckden!)
Great food, beer and accommodation! And a Welcoming landlord!

Have a great trip!
Pete

Slightly worried by several posts regarding 'frisky' cattle - i almost got stomped last year in Swaledale!

Most incidents of "frisky cattle" have involved walkers with dogs crossing fields with calves in. Take away these two points and problems are very, very rare.

I confess that nowadays I sometimes look for which is the best escape route before I enter a field containing calves and I have occasionally detoured around a field to avoid them if I have sensed that they have young and may approach me. It is not something that I am unduly worried about but more something that I am aware of.

There are certainly rogue individual cows especially amongst highland cattle. If you are harassed by one it is important, if possible, to let the farmer know. Aggression has been bred out of them and any showing such tendencies are quickly despatched to Mr MacDonalds
