If doing Wainwrights route, (I'm sure you have worked it out) to complete in 5 days, you must average 38 miles per day. Not getting behind schedule is the most important thing. Try to get beyond that in the first couple of days to give yourselves a phycholical boost.
Oh, and don't forget the Compeed.
By the way, you are setting off on my 66th birthday!
Dave

Happy Birthday for tomorrow chap.

Yes, I've been reading the thread posted recently of the two that finished their 5 day crossing last week with great interest. 33 hours straight at the end must've been a hard slog.

Compeed packed and ready!!!

It's all your fault Mick.
Dave.

Ronald makes it sound so easy... I must ask him how old he was. Shame I just couldn't muster enough for that final 40m push on the last attempt having stuck with his schedule to Robin Hood's grave, but there you go...
Best of luck with your attempt Craig!
cheers

Good Luck,Craig.
A report at the end is always interesting, whether it's over 5 days or 15!
Looks like anyone else also doing it over this Easter has got some cold conditions, especially if camping.I presume there is still some high level snow cover as well.
Perhaps this 5 day challenge should be one of the UK's Top Ten Adventure Challenges, as listed out in Mens Health magazine the other month!

hi all , did the st bees to KS bit last year so me and kieran doing the second half this year . probably going for a september jaunt again this year . funnily enough last year the B AND B owners all commented that august was pretty quiet compared to September bookings . think a lot of people had the same idea of a september crossing . we will be staying in the Old vicarage in Ravenstonedale the night before setting out - just cos we had such a great stay last year - second only to the royal oak rossthwaite . was our first long distance walk last year and no major problems , no blisters but had good socks and boots so obviously this is a help . bridgedale socks were a great purchase . have a great time , you will meet some amazing folks on the way . have some loweswater gold and liquidator - you wont regret it !

[quote=padders67] probably going for a september jaunt again this year

Is this on the basis that the weather couldn't possibly be as bad this september as it was last? And of course you meet some great people in September! We met some people towards the end who were doing the 2nd half having done the 1st half a couple of years ago in a heatwave and people had been dropping out because of that, so the rain isn't always a bad thing! They did think the weather last year was pretty bad - and that was on one of our "better" days! Hope you have a great time this year, thats the advantage of doing it in two parts, you have to go back and finish it!

You really can'prpedict the weather in the Lakes, Dales and Moors One year is no prediction of the next ..... and the only general rule is that the 17th September is usually a nice day!!!

No LDP's this year sadly. Very jealous of you doing the Coast to Coast again. We're heading south this year to Cornwall and will take in some walks on the South Coast path. But will definitely do another LDP sometime, maybe Offas Dyke or Cotswold Way. And maybe even the Coast to Coast again one day! Make sure you let us know how you get on this year, September will soon come around.
