I am currently trialling the carbon version for Pacerpole (or, to be exact, the bottom half). I have tried various combinations for comparison .... both poles with a carbon base, one with a carbon base one without and both standard.

The main difference is that the two section pole flexes very slightly more, which I don't mind but some might find a little disconcerting. Also it does not fold as small .... a fact that again doesn't worry me as I never pack mine up.

To be honest I don't notice the weight when I'm walking, but they are certainly rigid enough to support all my weight if I have to lean on them or "vault" across an obstacle.
Let us know how you get on with them ....

quick update...we're doing a bit more serious training now for the PW at the end of May so last week we did about 80 miles around the hilly part of the Chilterns. The poles performed really well, minimal flex, locked up solid with no slippage, very comfy on the hands and no sense of the extra weight when in use (I think they feel heavy when not in use). I'm convinced that poles suit me when carrying a pack on any hilly terrain, they also speed you along more on the flat and the Pacers have the advantage of that special hand grip. So far I'm happy with them.

I think that it is the quality of the poles that makes a vast difference. Expensive, but they are far superior to the cheaper ones
