Evening all, it would be nice to know who will be out walking this Year and especially anyone walking in June.
This trip will be my sixth foot crossing W to E. Even with five crossing behind me by foot and one by bike the C2C still holds that feeling of excitement and trepidation. The trepidation probably comes from that fact that I walked my first C2C some 21 years ago. This year will be different again since I will be walking with my girlfriend and using a baggage service, although we will be camping with a couple of YHA’s. In past years I have backpacked four times and once B&B/YHA self-supported whilst on foot, the crossing by bike was B&B and YHA accommodation.
The bookings are going will, just a few campsites to confirm, the only problem encounter is Grasmere. I am currently booked in to Ambleside YHA, which will require a bus ride from Grasmere and then return by bus in the morning.

Out on a local Fell walk yesterday, I came across a couple carrying big packs. The packs inc tent, sleep mat etc, etc all looked new kit.
I stopped and asked them what they were up to. They replied that they out on a test walking with their packs in preparation for walking the C2C. They would be spending 18 days on it, although I didn't get when they were starting.
I told them that they are going to have a great time and that they would love it.
You could tell that backpacking was new to them even though they were in their 40s and that they would go through the inevitable learning curve. I felt like giving them a few obvious tips, but didn't want to appear patronising. The tent and everyhting was very neatly placed, but there was no waterproof protection on the Sleep mat and the nylon tent bag was was positioned with the full lengh zip upermost. Little points that make all the difference.
Dave.

My husband and I are walking the C2C again this year starting Saturday 30th June. This will be our third crossing now, but still very much looking forward to it. Same route, but different weather, different people, different sheep........

I'll be doing the walk with my brother from May 16 to June 1. This is my first time and to say that I am excited would be an understatement. I've wanted to do this for ages.

However, my excitement is mixed with a bit of trepidation. Although it's fairly routine for me to walk 5 to 8 miles in the course of day, I am not an experienced walker or hiker. I've certainly walked 15 or 20 miles on more than one occasion, but I'm a little worried about doing that for 15 consecutive days (with one rest day). Fortunately, we'll be staying at B&B's (already booked) and having a service transport or luggage from stop to stop.

Did I mention that I'm excited?

Once the time approaches the excitement will start to kick in. Enjoy it (assuming that you have decent comfortable boots and can read a map) and let us know how you get on. You have picked a good time of the year to do it!

Bob,
Don't worry, but do make sure your footwear is good and fits you correctly. The last thing you want is blisters early on, but I'm sure you already know that.
Take it easier during the first 3 days. These are the warm up days for a multi day trip. From day 4 on you will feel better and find it easier.
Dave.

I'm sure you'll be fine - we walked it last year over 15 days without a rest day. We too rarely walked more than 8 miles and I was worried about walking so many days in a row, but we managed it. We also don't have any hills where we live! Just make sure you do some training building up the miles and maybe a couple of weeks before you go aim to walk 15 miles two days in a row, or three if possible, which will likely be your miles on the first few days of the walk.

First days for me is easy, I get my blisters either half-way or towards the end.
