Hi Dave
Will be interested to see how you get on with these, I've had 2 pairs of the slightly heavier Qwests in recent years and have found them to be spot on. The share the same 4D sole unit I believe and I find them very comfortable and stable.
I was tempted by the Cosmic last time but in the early days had read reviews were people had problems with leaking but you dont seem to see that any more so hopefully they'll be sound.

Oh, Mick there's nothing quite like an advanced chassis.
I'll give it a go but if I'm not up to 30mph within 6 seconds theyre going back!
Gobbledygook, it's how they perform that counts. If not up to expectations - ebay here they come.
Just sold an OMM Jirishanka on there. I never did use it, only the foam back system on my last two C2C's. Ive had to buy another Duo Mat as they call them from OMM, as I find they are adequate and super light for fast lightweight trips.

'You never see a gamekeeper with a blister!'

Isn't that more down to them not going very far..? I've never had a blister in my crappy toe-cap work boots for the same reason.

Are they 80cm sq. at 150gms Dave? Not used these - but did use the cut-down Ridgerest which was/is quite good.

I found this to be perectly adequate for April and September when I used it. Of course I don't know about comfort, it was just insulation I was concerned about and it did its job. I never had time to be uncomfortable after 40 odd mile I was out like alight, so it didn't matter.

I have tramped many a mile after my dad when he was gamekeeper
He use to warm muttom fat till it was liquid then work it in to his leatherboots, he never had blisters.

Most gamekeepers, as Tim will no doubt now verify, spend all day in their boots walking over rough terrain including tussocky heather, sieves and rough fell. Guaranteed to give you blisters if your footwear is unsuitable!

Tim

Did he get the mutton fat from a friendly sheep whilst out at work?

Yeah, got it now Dave. Useful stowed inside pack as well as support. The Ridgerest is probably slightly better though a little bulkier. Mine (cut down - 160gms) folds 'flat' onto outside of sac. While the moulded ridge offers a little more in the way of 'comfort' it don't make that much difference after a long day. I have to admit that I've never been very good at finding naturally insulating soft spots or making a bed of bracken etc... and so some form of GI is essential for me esp. with a down bag.
