It depends on context.I think all you were saying when you said "hate" was that you didn't like it when people said they were doing a walk solely for charity rather than themselves.I am quite sure you didn't mean that you actually hated the person for doing the walk! The former is a bit like saying "I hate bad weather",just a figure of speech. Its not like the emotion of hate.
You are more eloquent than me Tony. That's exactly what I meant.
When they make it sound like the sole reason they are doing it, is to raise charity funds, when in fact they are doing something that they would naturally do anyway.
Digressing slightly, a pal and myslf when we walked the Offas Dyke Path went round to our friends with a sponsorship form to raise some money for a local young lad who had something like Spina Bifida (spelling?), who's parent had made an appeal in a local paper.
We raised £600 and went round to the lads house and handed it over the cash to his parents. We never received a receipt and to be honest came away a little concerned and feeling like we had been conned. We never heard anything else about the appeal and wondered as to where the money had actually gone, as the state of the house looked like it could do with some money spent on it. Everything may have been above board, but that's not how we felt.
In fund raising things since, we have made sure that the money goes into the registered charities account, rather than handing cash over.
Dave.
